Africa’s telecom infrastructure is expanding rapidly, but asset visibility is still playing catch-up.

Today, the continent has over 200,000 telecom towers, projected to exceed 260,000 by 2029, driven by rising data demand and network expansion.
Across this footprint, major TowerCos and operators like IHS Towers, Helios Towers, American Tower Corporation, MTN, Airtel, and Glo are powering connectivity at scale.

But behind this growth lies a critical challenge:

Founders day 🤵‍♂️

When I pivoted into Software Engineering in 2024. It was bitter-sweet!

It was not a random decision—it was the result of an experience that completely changed my perspective.

In 2024, I came very close to securing an opportunity worth £33,000 per year at University of St Andrews in Scotland. Unfortunately, I lost the opportunity because although I had a Second Class Upper degree, I did not yet have a master’s qualification. Every other requirement clicked.

That moment stayed with me.

Instead of becoming discouraged, I used it as motivation to enroll in an MSc Software Engineering. One thing about me is that I genuinely enjoy challenges, exploring new territories, and pushing myself into environments that demand growth.

Coming from a telecommunications background, transitioning into software engineering was both humbling and transformative. I had to learn differently, think differently and adapt quickly. Fortunately, I was also able to secure an internship during the process, which exposed me to practical software development environments and strengthened my understanding of modern engineering systems.

Looking back, it was worth it.

The most important thing I discovered was the confluence point between Telecommunications and Software Engineering—the realization that the future of telecom is deeply tied to software, automation, intelligent systems, infrastructure platforms, AI-driven operations, and scalable digital solutions.

Today, I no longer see telecom and software engineering as separate worlds. I see them as one evolving ecosystem and this gave birth to Tilicom.

And honestly, this experience changed everything for me.
