The 2026 summer transfer window has officially shut - and the numbers tell a clear story:
Beyond the top 10: English clubs spent a record £3.46bn this window - more than 3x what they spent five years ago - including six separate €100m+ deals. Also, of the 19 deals above £50m this window, 14 were Premier League clubs buying from within the league - buying within England has never been more expensive.
🇬🇧 That spending power shows in the top 10 itself: 9 of the 10 biggest deals are Premier League moves. Only Yan Diomandé’s €125m switch to Real Madrid breaks the pattern.
💸 Enzo Fernández tops the list at €145m (Chelsea → Man City) - one of three City signings in the top 10, alongside Elliot Anderson (€135m) and 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi (€95m).
🔵 Tottenham are the other story, with Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Sávio all featuring - part of a summer that saw Spurs rank among the Premier League’s three biggest spenders. Together, City and Spurs account for 6 of the top 10 deals and ~58% of the €1.15bn represented here.
📈 The real intrigue is the value gap. Sávio’s €87.7m fee is 2.5x his listed market value. Mateus Fernandes’ €99m nearly doubles his. Same market, wildly different pricing logic - a reminder that fees increasingly reflect urgency and scarcity, not valuation models.
The €100m transfer used to be reserved for the elite few. This window, six players crossed the mark.
Here’s the uncomfortable question: if market value is this disconnected from what clubs actually pay, what are recruitment teams really pricing when they make an offer?
That’s the gap Footy Labs was built to close - helping clubs, agents and players understand actual fit beyond headline valuations.
