Last week, FastNetMon joined the very first MDNOG in Chișinău, Moldova.

360 registered attendees for a brand-new national NOG is a remarkable achievement. The two-day programme covered BGP security, routing engineering, DDoS mitigation, optical networking, data centre infrastructure and peering.

Virgil Truica represented FastNetMon with a presentation on “DDoS Attacks in 2026: Emerging Trends, New Records and Practical Mitigation,” covering how attack patterns are evolving and the practical challenges of protecting networks against increasingly demanding attacks.

Beyond the technical programme, what stood out most was the energy of a community coming together for the very first time.

A big thank you to Andrian Visnevschi, Vladimir Filatov, and the entire organising team. Starting something new like this is no small undertaking and the result speaks for itself.

FastNetMon Advanced 2.0.385 is out.

The headline additions in this release are attack detection logic for IPv6 traffic, per-IP and per-rule FlowSpec filtering counters, and TLS support for ClickHouse connections. IPv6 flow tracking has also been implemented, and flow dumps now include duration, start, and end fields in JSON output.

On the BGP side, this release adds mirror next-hop configuration support for both IPv4 and IPv6 whole-subnet announcements. Scrubbing services have been upgraded, and version and license information are now available in the Prometheus metrics endpoint.

Stability fixes include a potential crash in remote host counters and a ClickHouse exporter crash when a database table is corrupted.

Day 1 of 1 is done and what a first edition it was.

Virgil Truica represented FastNetMon on stage yesterday, presenting “DDoS attacks in 2026: Trends & mitigation” to a room full of network engineers, ISPs, and infrastructure operators from across the region.

A real milestone for Moldova’s networking community. Proud to have been part of the very first MDNOG.

A peer drops. With SNMP, you find out within thirty to sixty seconds, and what you get is "down." That's it.

With BMP, the router sends a Peer Down notification the instant it happens, and it carries the real BGP error code along with it, the actual reason, not a generic flag.
That's the difference between knowing something broke and knowing what broke. BMP doesn't stop at up-or-down. Every update a peer sends gets mirrored over, full path attributes intact, origin, AS path, next hop, communities, nothing trimmed. The router even introduces itself when the session starts, vendor, software version, hostname, so you know exactly which box is talking before a single route comes through.

None of it is reconstructed after the fact. It's what the router reported, peer by peer, the moment it happened.

The FBI just seized the domains of NightmareStresser, a DDoS-for-hire service that's been enabling attacks worldwide since 2022.

This is part of Operation PowerOFF, an ongoing international effort targeting booter services. NightmareStresser is the kind of service that lets anyone pay to launch a DDoS attack without needing any technical knowledge or infrastructure of their own. That's what makes these platforms dangerous and why law enforcement keeps going after them.

The seized domains now show FBI notices. No arrests were announced and the underlying attack infrastructure wasn't confirmed as seized, so there's a chance the operators could resurface on new domains. It's happened before with this service.

That said, this is part of a pattern that's working. Eight years of Operation PowerOFF activity has resulted in 12 defendants charged and over 100 domains seized. Every takedown makes these services harder and riskier to run.

Denys Haryachyy is back with another deep dive from the FastNetMon lab.

This time he took the NVIDIA BlueField-3 DPU and asked a simple question: how much can FD,io VPP filter when it runs on the DPU's own Arm cores instead of the x86 host?

The answer: at 256-byte frames and above, VPP filters at full 100G line rate on the Arm cores. For 64-byte floods the ceiling is around 59 Mpps. With both 100G uplinks loaded, 1500-byte frames hit close to 200 Gbps.

The post walks through every step of getting VPP running on the DPU, from putting the card in DPU mode and releasing the uplinks from OVS, through hugepages, the container setup and startup configuration, to the benchmarking methodology and results.

One detail worth noting: the per-packet cost stays flat whether you have ten thousand or nearly a million filtering rules loaded. What moves the rate is how many rules the traffic is actively touching at once.

RONOG 11 wrapped in Bucharest yesterday, and Virgil Truica was there representing FastNetMon.
The Radisson Blu was packed with Romania’s network operator community for a full day of sessions, sponsor booths, and hallway conversations, StartBit as diamond sponsor, alongside ZNET, Internet Society, IPXO, RIPE NCC, and a long list of others backing the event.
Between sessions there was plenty of time to trade notes with familiar faces and meet some new ones across the exhibition floor.
RONOG continues to bring together operators, engineers, and infrastructure companies working on the technology shaping connectivity across Romania and the wider region. Always good to be part of that conversation.
