Windows 10 support ended back in October 2025. If you're still on it, that means no more security updates, so new vulnerabilities stay open. It's not usually an overnight emergency, but it's worth knowing which machines are affected and whether they can even upgrade to Windows 11. Cyber insurance and client questionnaires are increasingly asking about this too. Free 15-minute IT health check, just ask.

Office networks get firewalls, monitoring, proper separation. Home networks usually get none of that, just a router with a default password and whatever else is connected, smart TVs included. Remote working means business data now travels across networks you can't see or control. How much do you actually know about the networks your team works from?

Your cyber insurance provider has new demands. Insurers are raising the bar on security before they'll pay out on breach claims - they now require MFA, endpoint protection, regular backups, and staff training. Fail to meet their requirements and you're exposed twice: once to the attack itself, and again if your insurer won't cover the cost.

We've seen this catch businesses by surprise. Make sure you know what your provider actually requires.

Two of eight newly disclosed Citrix NetScaler vulnerabilities are being actively exploited, and one lets an unauthenticated remote attacker run commands. If your business uses NetScaler, or your IT provider runs remote access for you, confirm the version today. Fixed versions are 14.1-73.37 and 13.1-64.23. Patching alone is not enough though: check for compromise first, as updating may remove evidence. Not sure what your remote access runs on? Ask whoever manages it.

A USB drive found in a car park or handed over by someone you don't fully know is one of the oldest tricks going, and it still works. Malware can run the moment it's plugged in, no click needed. A simple team rule, no unknown drives, closes most of this off for free. Worth agreeing today rather than leaving it to guesswork.

Ransomware attack. Systems locked. Data at risk. The next 60 minutes determine everything.

Most UK businesses panic and make it worse. They call their insurance broker or try to negotiate with the attacker. Both waste time you don't have.

Here's what actually matters in the first hour:

Isolate. Disconnect the infected machine from your network. Stop the spread immediately.

Document. Screenshot the ransom note, note the time. Your cyber insurer will need evidence.

Report. Contact us for immediate containment support. Then report to the NCSC.

Negotiation and payment decisions come later. Right now, containment is everything.

We've helped UK businesses recover from ransomware. The ones who acted fastest lost the least.

The 3-2-1 rule is a simple way to think about backups: three copies of your data, two different types of storage, one copy offsite. It's not complicated, but the offsite copy is the bit that most often gets missed, usually because it takes a bit more setting up than a second local drive. Worth checking your own backups against it.

Cyber Essentials sounds official and technical, but it comes down to five controls, and the NCSC estimates they prevent around 80 percent of common cyber attacks. It's the single highest-impact security step most small businesses can take. Plain-English guide: https://it-msp.net/blog/cyber-essentials-explained-uk-business-guide-2026.
