A fascinating evening with the Artists Group at Dark Matter Studios last night. We learnt about printing on goat hide, archival inks, and the effect Instagram is having on galleries by connecting artists directly with collectors, among other things.

💥Sneak peek of new project we are delighted to be working on, a fantastic box set containing 12 new images on Hahnemuhle’s German Etching 310gsm in an edition of 120💥

Day 1 : ‘Realm’

At twelve noon on May 1st I’ll be releasing a box set of the recent series of work I made using only elements of engravings of Gustave Doré’s work as source material.

‘A Week of Twelve Days’ will be limited to 120 boxes, with 12 prints in each, plus a gold special extra something to make 13. 👀

There’ll also be 12 artist proofs of each print, available individually if you’re not after the full set.

All prints will measure 31cm x 42.5cm.

All will be released together at 12 noon on May Day - Saturday 1st of May - exclusively via my website, danhillier.com.

I decided to make these on a whim and was super pleased with what popped forth. Each image was made in a day, though I’ve also tinkered with some of them since, to make them print ready as a series.

I’m v. pleased indeed to be working again with , who produced my Six Women and Six Men box sets.

An announcement from The Print Pod / Dark Matter Studio:
'Following the recent publication by Chose Commune of ‘Jeux de mains' by Cécile Poimbœuf-Koizumi & Stephen Ellcock, a collection of images of the human hand as depicted throughout history, Dark Matter Studio , the Print Pod and Stephen Ellcock are pleased to announce the imminent publication of a new limited edition digital archival print featuring one of the most intriguing images featured in the book - Eight Shadow Figures by Utagawa Hiroshige.

This print will be published in a strictly limited edition of 250 copies, each of which will be supplied with a numbered and stamped.Certificate of Authenticity,

Unfortunately, Stephen is currently recovering from a recent accident, in the form of an elbow-first tumble onto an unforgiving pavement, temporarily incapacitating his right hand , so he will be unable to add his trademark neo-brutalist , semi-legible signature to the certificates . To compensate for this, Stephen has volunteered to add his own unique imprimatur to each and every certificate in the form of a print of his very own functioning opposable thumb.

This unique example of mark making at its most primitive will , no doubt, become a highly sought -after collectors’ item , the envy of family , friends and foes alike, and a precious heirloom to be treasured by your heirs and descendants for generations to come. '

'Kunstformen de Natur' ('Art Forms in Nature') is a book of prints by German Biologist Ernst Haeckel. The two volumes consist of 100 intricately detailed images of various organisms, many of them first described by Haeckel himself. The original drawings and watercolours were translated into print by Adolf Giltsch.
 
These new digital archival prints based on Haeckel’s originals were created by Dan Faine and Zoe Dorelli at Dark Matter Studio, London

I am delighted to announce a new and exciting project , a collaboration with boutique printmakers and publishers, Dark Matter Studio,  launching this month
We be releasing a series of limited edition archival prints of the highest quality this month , available to pre-order now,

For our initial selection we have chosen six individual prints featuring celestial imagery plus a box set of six prints by Ernst Haeckel.
I have lived with and, indeed recycled most of the featured images for many years, posting them on social media , featuring them in books, on stationery, etc, so they have become very familiar, but Zoe and Dan from Dark Matter have brought them to dazzling  new life ,  enabling me to see them in their startling , original splendour .

Étienne Léopold Trouvelot, the French artist and astronomer, created 'Total Eclipse of the Sun' as one of a set of 15 pastel drawings originally published as The Trouvelot Astronomical Drawings in 1882.

These prints are part of a series of six prints fearuring celestial images released as archival limited editions of 250 copies. Each copy comes with a sstamped certificate of authenticity.

I’m so pleased to announce our first collaboration with the wonderful . He’s put together a beautiful selection of 6 images from Ernst Haeckel’s ‘Kunstformen Der Natur’ to be produced as a stunning, limited edition A3 box set containing 6 archival pigment prints along with stamped and signed colophon page containing Stephen’s fascinating explanatory text.

A stamped and numbered archival digital print on Somerset Satin 330gsm paper, available in 2 sizes.

Étienne Léopold Trouvelot, the French artist and astronomer, created 'Total Eclipse of the Sun' as one of a set of 15 pastel drawings originally published as The Trouvelot Astronomical Drawings in 1882.
"Although photography renders valuable assistance to the astronomer in the case of the Sun and Moon … for other subjects, its products are in general so blurred and indistinct that no details of any great value can be secured. A well-trained eye alone is capable of seizing the delicate details of structure and of configuration of the heavenly bodies, which are liable to be affected, and even rendered invisible, by the slightest changes in our atmosphere."

This is one of a series of celestial images released as archival limited editions of 250 copies. Each copy comes with a signed and stamped certificate of authenticity.
