Container lines return to Suez is positive news for lead times, fuel consumption and emissions

Global container port throughput has passed 1 billion TEU, increasing fivefold in 25 years. However, new container ship ordering in the past five years has also increased capacity by 21.7 million TEU. This will add about 3 million TEU per year to the container fleet in the years to come, putting downward pressure on freight rates. Despite this, long-term demand remains positive as the world’s population is expected to increase by 1.5 billion people over the next 25 years

Susannah Streeter to Lead the Conversation at Shipping UK

On 6 October, award-winning broadcaster and financial commentator Susannah Streeter will join us in Westminster to moderate Shipping UK, where we will bring together the leaders, policymakers and experts tackling the biggest challenges facing the sector.

From geopolitics and global trade to security and investment, Susannah's experience covering the forces shaping the world economy makes her ideally placed to lead a day of debate about what comes next for shipping.

Join organisations including Carnival UK, Clarksons Research, Maersk UK, P&O Ferries, Red Funnel and Seapeak, alongside representatives from government, defence and finance, to examine the decisions that will define the industry's future through to 2030.
