This is one of the photographs I took recently. It is for a Baby Sock Zoom workshop organised by Monica Russel. Creating visual aids for an online workshop is an exciting exercise. Communicating through video is something we will all have to get better at.

I think there are some places left for this workshop, but it is tomorrow. Just click the link to the bio and then the link to the Event listing. It is in aid of the Trussell Trust who support food banks across the country.

Essential equipment at the moment. The bit of card is the most important piece of all. It is a "sticky stick", which isn't sticky, but is used to reach objects in impossible situations. I use this one to fish out a camera card from the DVD slot on my computer when I don't look at what I am doing. My husband made it for me – heroes come in all sorts of guises.

I have just finished photographing lots of images for various people, and I am supposed to be tidying up my office. But I can't quite face it.

This gift for a dear friend has been a real family affair: I crocheted the frog in the only green cotton I had and finished with only a few metres to spare; our daughter made the cloak and an incredible tent which is not shown here; my husband made the throne and then a second one because he liked the first so much. But in general I have been doing less making and more graphic design and crochet charts.

Those of you who know our daughter will be familiar with this hat. She has worn it every winter for several years now. Our daughter had a colour in mind, and we searched the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace looking for it. Only one seller had the right yellow. Yellow was not as popular as it is now. I am not sure who the stallholder was, but the yarn is It's a Stitch up .a.stitch.upand I have just discovered they are based locally. These discoveries are one of the benefits of time to trawl the internet. It was a lovely yarn to use, and now I know where I can get more.

I am posting this bear today because it makes me smile, and the concept is so frivolous. Who needs a knitted bauble cover? But small projects like this are a good way of learning new techniques in manageable chunks. For an adult-sized version look in Animal Hats to Knit. Perhaps this bear will feature in a workshop one day.

Monica Russel has a second knitting workshop in aid of the Trussel Trust. If you have ever wanted to learn how to knit socks, now is your chance and to do it in support of a worthy charity. Learn the basic techniques of a heel flap, turning a heel, shaping an instep, and a toe on small a sock in the company of fellow knitters. Start knitting larger socks for yourself and your family – they will thank you for the luxury of a perfectly fitting sock.

If that wasn't inducement enough, the sponsors have provided a discount code for books, sock yarn and Addi sock needles to give away. We are all working for free to bring you this workshop and raise money for food banks which are a lifeline for so many.

I hope you are all well. I have been swamped with graphic design work helping others provide free services and treats for crafters staying at home. One event is this free Fair Isle knitting workshop on Zoom. If you can knit, then this is an excellent opportunity to try a new technique and learn from one of the country's most experienced and popular knitting teachers – as well as raise money for a good cause.

Please share with your knitting friends, and I hope to bring you news about more exciting events and freebies soon.

Finger knitted scarves need not be dull.
This one is made up of three long strips and two shorter strips to create a fringe. The same effect could be achieved by offsetting strips of the same length. The strips could have been plaited or woven, stitched or knotted. That's without thinking about colour, mixing yarns or textures.
A simple technique should not be overlooked; they are quickly mastered and often have huge creative potential.

I am preparing for a workshop today: Geometric embroidery on crochet fabric.
I like this workshop because I like to create patterns. I am taking lots of beads and extra bits to inspire the people who attend the workshop. Playtime is good for everyone and this workshop is for all levels of experience.
