Photos from where we were kindly hosted on Thursday eve for the Grasshopper UK User Group Meeting which followed the ‘Hero for a Day’ Hack organised by Hawkins/Brown.

Jack and Ben from Remap introduced the Hero for a Day concept and then the Hackathon groups presented their Hacks - amazing to see what they had produced in the single (8-hour) workday session!

Our closing presentation was from Mauro from who had also joined a hack group during the day.

🔜 Technical write-up of the evening is underway and coming soon!

deliver expert Grasshopper training with the team from and .pub - getting you off to the best start with our live online Grasshopper Level 1 and continuing your GH journey with Level 2.

👀 In a recent L1 class we took showed how a sphere becomes a simple spatial rule for structuring data.

📊 In Grasshopper, points are evaluated by distance from a centre, creating a clear separation based on radius. This kind of logic opens up flexible ways to organise, filter, and build relationships within complex datasets.

We’re at for the next Grasshopper UK User Meeting on 21st May. This evening meeting will have presentations from our hosts at Hawkins/Brown, Remap and MKS DTECH (Beam and Rhino Sync).

Hawkins\Brown are hosting their own ‘Hero for a Day’ Hackathon during the day on the same date. Applications for that are directly via Hawkins/Brown with a link to this on the GH event page.

Hope to see you at the GH meeting in the evening - it’s free to join us but you’ll need to sign-up and the link is in the linktr.ee (in bio).

invite you to join us at our hosts on 17th March for the Grasshopper UK User Meeting.

Presentations begin with ‘Adaptive Panelisation Workflows for Double-Curved Surfaces’ from the PLP Architecture team consisting of Abhinav Chaudhary, Genta Okamoto and Gizem Nalbur.

Next we’ll have Dr Milad Showkatbakhsh from the . Milad is the Director of the programme at the AA and also the Co-Founder of .x - his presentation is ‘Architecture in the Interface of Nature’s Logic and Machine’s reasoning’.

Thomas Mahon and Tom Norris from will be announcing the launch of Rhino.Inside.AutoCAD (RiA).

The computational team from will be talking ‘Sculptural Structures’ and exploring how Grasshopper serves as a powerful medium for enabling fluid movement between conceptual form-making, geometric logic and buildability.
Stephanie Di Gironimo, Selim Helse & Ipek Duzova are our presenters.

Closing the night will be the Rhino & Grasshopper developers themselves, McNeel. Expect tool updates, your questions, answers and lively conversations with Luis Fraguada, Andrew le Bihan and Scott Davidson .europe

and work together to deliver expert Grasshopper training through both scheduled public live courses and bespoke private classes.

This is an exercise from a recent scheduled Grasshopper training delivered by the team.

In this Grasshopper exercise, participants learnt to generate and fabricate minimal surface geometries using computational design tools. Starting from orthogonal planar quad meshes, the workflow employs Kangaroo for mesh relaxation and form-finding to achieve minimal surface forms, followed by refining the mesh to maintain planarity and developability. Using the Stripper plugin, the design is then divided into developable strips along the UV directions, unrolled, and prepared as laser-cut-ready files. The session bridges digital form-finding, geometric rationalization, and fabrication, offering a complete workflow from concept to physical prototype.

Our scheduled Grasshopper courses commence with Level 1 which aims to improve your workflow with Grasshopper and give you an overall understanding of parametric thinking. The native tools of Grasshopper and their relationship to Rhino3D are explored as well as their data structure and general concepts such as data types, data matching and lists.

Progress to Level 2 and broaden your parametric knowledge with Advanced Data Trees, Form-Finding, Meshes and SubD’s.

Check out our upcoming course dates at the Simply Rhino website or DM us if you would like to discuss bespoke Grasshopper training for you or your company.

In our Rhino Level 1 for Jewellery Designers training course, delivered with , we take those completely new to Rhino (CAD) software and teach them the best methods for working with Rhino to produce professional results, like the beautiful rings modelled here.

The course is taught by Jack, who is a jeweller and certified Rhino trainer, and those attending the live online course are in the best of experienced hands.

Simply Rhino courses are delivered live to small groups (maximum of 8) and those live sessions are also recorded so that attendees can playback the training at their leisure.

Check 🔗 in.bio for upcoming course dates or DM us and we’ll share more details with you.

and work together to deliver expert Grasshopper training through scheduled public courses and bespoke private classes.

This is an exercise from a recent scheduled Grasshopper training delivered by the team:

Starting from orthogonal planar quad meshes, the workflow uses Kangaroo in Grasshopper to perform a form-finding process that generates a minimal surface representation through mesh relaxation simulation. Once the equilibrium form is achieved, an inflation simulation is applied to morph and expand the mesh within a defined spherical boundary, allowing it to dynamically adapt its curvature and spatial distribution. The resulting geometry is then visually analyzed and colored based on mesh normals, highlighting surface orientation and curvature variation, and offering a clear visual understanding of the mesh’s spatial behavior and structural qualities.
