🇪🇺 AI in Music: What the EU AI Act Changes from August 2026

Starting August 2, 2026, the EU AI Act requirements on mandatory labeling of AI-generated content come into force. For the music industry, this means new rules at every level — from artists to distributors.

What will change and how it will work — we explain in our new article!

Even if you don’t live or work in the European Union, but distribute music to that territory, this applies to you. And don’t forget that Spotify, Deezer, and others are European companies as well.

Before launching ads, ask yourself one question: Have people shared my post who weren’t obligated to?

Your loyal followers are the warmest audience you have. If your own fans scroll past your content, strangers from ads will ignore it even faster. Shares and real comments are the only reliable signals that content works. Likes are psychologically cheap — people give them out of habit or politeness. A share is a conscious action — a small act of trust.

Practical rule
Never run ads on content that hasn’t gained organic traction. Give it 48–72 hours. Are there shares, real discussions, saves? Then it’s ready for promotion. If not — go back to content creation.

The main idea: 10,000 silent followers are worth less than 100 people who actually discuss your releases and buy your merch.

When you build an audience around an electronic project or manage the catalog of an independent label, you quickly realize that listeners are not just numbers in analytics. They are your ecosystem.

Apple is asking artists and record labels on its music streaming platform to voluntarily label songs that were made using AI. The new “Transparency Tags” metadata system for Apple Music was announced in a newsletter to industry partners yesterday, according to Music Business Worldwide, and covers four categories, including track, composition, artwork, and music videos.

🚨 Longread alert

Why “handshake deals” and DMs quietly destroy careers, and what legal documents every serious artist must have in place.

In the independent music world, there is a persistent and dangerous myth: if you are not signed to a major label and work “on good terms,” formal contracts are optional. In reality, the absence of a basic legal framework is one of the fastest ways to derail an artist’s career.

Most serious conflicts in independent music do not start with bad intentions. They start with informal agreements, friendly collaboration, and trust-based arrangements that were never documented. When money, success, or conflict enters the picture, those informal deals offer no legal leverage.

Unpaid work, ownership disputes, blocked releases, takedowns, and lawsuits are not edge cases. They are structural consequences of operating without contracts.
Below is the core legal toolkit every independent artist should have, regardless of genre, country, or career stage.

👻 In the age of streaming, a phenomenon has emerged that most everyday listeners are completely unaware of. These are so-demcalled “ghost musicians” — artists who do not exist in real life, yet whose music racks up billions of streams.

🤖 9 AI Tools for Musicians in 2026: Utilities Instead of Generation

These tools are infrastructure, not creators. In 2026, the winners will be the ones who use AI for the “boring” tasks (data analysis, tagging, cleaning up audio), freeing up time for real music.
