Sometimes, people are shocked that food banks can end up with a surplus of things 🍚

When people think about donating to food banks, they often think of pasta and rice.

While those items are helpful, food banks need a wide range of foods to make sure the parcels they provide are balanced and nutritious.

Our founder, Robin, recently visited Birmingham Central Foodbank and spoke to Eli, who shared some positive stories about their food bank visitors 🙌

Eli told Robin about a man who needed to use their services to get by, but after months of relying on the kindness of strangers, he was able to return the favour and make a generous donation to the food bank that helped him during his time of need ❤️

We often hear stories like this from food banks. They are not a way of life, but a means of support during crisis, and that support stretches far beyond food.

A survey conducted by NUS last year found 75% of students say that their loan or bursary does not cover their cost of living comfortably.

74% of students have cut back on socialising due to the cost-of-living crisis, 55% have cut back on food, and 13% have experienced homelessness.

This is devastating research.

Let us take you back to 2020, when Bankuet was in its infancy.

We were able to scale up and help food banks across the UK when they needed it most during the Covid-19 crisis 🙌
