It turns out that many internet users in the UK are paying more than they should for broadband, and their providers hope they won’t catch on. 🧵
When your broadband contract wraps up, most providers will quietly switch you to a higher out-of-contract rate.
This can lead to you paying 20–40% more than new customers pay.
Same service, but at a steeper price, and no heads-up.
Here are three signs that you might be overpaying right now:
1️⃣ You haven’t renegotiated in over 18 months
Most contracts automatically renew at standard rates. If you haven’t taken the time to review your deal lately, chances are you’re not getting the best price out there.
2️⃣ You’re on FTTC, but full fibre (FTTP) is now available in your area
Full fibre coverage has really taken off across the UK in the past couple of years. If you’re still using a copper connection and paying the same rate as in 2022, it’s definitely worth checking what’s available now.
3️⃣ You’re paying for features you don’t actually use
Static IP, guaranteed SLA, unlimited everything, these extras can add up.
✅ Here’s what you can do right now:
→ Check your contract end date (log into your provider portal or give them a call)
→ Use Ofcom's Connected Nations tool to check your postcode
→ Get an independent review—not just a price comparison site that makes money off referrals
At Dovia, we offer unbiased broadband advice for UK businesses. No ties to providers, no referral fees, just a straightforward look at what’s out there, what you really need, and whether it’s time to switch, renegotiate, or stick with your current plan.
