Himal Tech attended the Nepal–UK Economic Partnership Forum 2026 (Trade • Investment • Technology • Outsourcing), held on Friday, 3 July 2026, at the Embassy of Nepal, London.

The event brought together government representatives, business leaders, and technology professionals to explore new opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, technology, and digital outsourcing between Nepal and the UK.

It was a pleasure to hear insightful perspectives from the British Ambassador to Nepal, Members of Parliament, industry leaders, and digital outsourcing experts on strengthening Nepal–UK economic partnerships and the future of digital collaboration.

One of the highlights was learning how Nepal’s talented workforce is delivering high-quality digital services to UK businesses, creating skilled employment while strengthening international partnerships.

WhatsApp has officially announced its new Username feature, which will let people start conversations without revealing their phone number. The rollout is beginning in phases, with username reservations becoming available to some users before a wider global launch later this year.

Here’s what is confirmed so far:

* Users can create a unique username (3–35 characters).
* New contacts will be able to message you using your username instead of your phone number.
* Your phone number will remain linked to your account but won’t be shown to new contacts who connect via your username.
* There will not be a public username directory or search feature, someone must know your exact username.
* Some usernames will be reserved for public figures and organisations to help prevent impersonation.
* Existing contacts who already have your phone number will still see it where appropriate.

Why this matters

This is one of WhatsApp’s biggest privacy improvements since end-to-end encryption. It’s particularly useful for:

* Buying and selling online
* Joining communities
* Contacting businesses
* Freelancers and creators
* Anyone who doesn’t want to share their personal phone number with strangers.

If you don’t see the feature yet, that’s normal,it’s being rolled out gradually over the coming months. Updating to the latest version of WhatsApp will ensure you’re eligible once it reaches your account.

As of 2026, here is how the "Invite-Only" system works for Facebook Reels:

1. The Shift to "Performance"
Meta’s primary monetisation tool for Reels now (often called Ads on Reels) doesn't have a public application button for most people. Instead, their system scans for "high-quality original content" that keeps people on the app.

The Shortcut: If a few of your Reels "pop off" and get consistent high views (even if you only have 500 or 1,000 followers), Meta’s algorithm flags your account as a high-value creator and sends an invite via your Professional Dashboard.

2. Why Quality Matters More Than Quantity
You hit the nail on the head: focusing on quality helps with the "Ads on Reels" and the Performance Bonus programs.

Originality is King: Meta’s 2026 updates are very aggressive against "unoriginal" content (reposts from TikTok with watermarks or movie clips).

Engagement Signals: The system looks for "Meaningful Social Interaction." If 1,000 people watch your Reel and 200 of them comment or share, that is a much stronger signal to Meta than a Reel with 10,000 views but zero comments.

3. Current "Invitation" Benchmarks
While there is no "official" number for the invite, creator data from early 2026 shows a pattern for those getting invited:

Followers: Many creators are getting invited with as few as 1,000 to 5,000 followers.

Views: Usually requires roughly 100k views across all Reels in a 30-day period.

Consistency: Posting at least 5-10 original Reels in the last month.
