Here's something most Shopify merchants find out the hard way.

The more apps you add, the slower your store gets. And a slower store means lower Google rankings, higher bounce rates, and customers leaving before they ever hit checkout.

We've seen stores running twenty-plus apps, many of which are duplicating each other's job or haven't been touched in months. The fix isn't always adding something new. Sometimes it's removing what's already there.

We wrote about this in detail, including when it makes more financial sense to build a custom solution than to keep paying for another app subscription.

Most brands pick a Shopify agency the wrong way.

They evaluate portfolios, check for Shopify Plus Partner status, ask about timelines. All reasonable. But the projects that go wrong usually don't fail because the agency was the wrong choice. They fail because the brand wasn't ready to brief anyone properly.

Before you talk to an agency, get honest about three things:
Do you actually know what's broken and why?
Do you have your store data ready to share?
Does someone on your team have the authority to make decisions quickly?

If those answers are fuzzy, no agency will save you.

We wrote a full breakdown of what to look for, what drives costs up (spoiler: it's ambiguity), and what a good post-launch relationship actually looks like.

International eCommerce expansion sounds exciting until you realise how much goes into it behind the scenes.

Going global is not just about turning on international shipping. The brands that scale successfully prepare for far more than that.

Here's what actually needs to be in place before you expand globally:
→ Validate demand with real data, not assumptions
→ Offer local currencies and payment methods (not just a currency converter)
→ Plan for duties, customs, and realistic delivery timelines
→ Localise properly — imagery, sizing, tone, not just language
→ Protect your margins by factoring in every landed cost
→ Build an international SEO strategy from day one
→ Support customers across time zones, not just yours

Shopify and Shopify Markets make a lot of this manageable — multi-currency, localised storefronts, duties at checkout, all from one backend.
But the platform only works as well as the strategy behind it.

Most ecommerce platforms feel fine. Until the business starts growing.

Then the cracks show up fast.

Slow sites. Too many apps. Painful updates. International expansion becomes complicated. Simple changes suddenly need developers.

That’s why so many growing brands are moving to Shopify and Shopify Plus.
The platform matters more than most businesses realise. It affects how fast you launch, scale, experiment, and grow.

Shopify is no longer just for startups. Many serious ecommerce brands now see it as the smarter long-term foundation.

Most Shopify stores hit a point where growth gets expensive.

You want to add more products, but that usually means buying inventory, managing storage, and hoping it sells.

Shopify Collective gives brands another option.

You can expand your catalogue without holding stock yourself. Your suppliers fulfil the orders, while you focus on the customer experience and growing sales.

It’s one of the smartest ways to increase product range and AOV without tying up cash in inventory.

We broke down how it works, where brands get it right, and what to watch out for.

If your Shopify store feels slow, it usually isn’t Shopify.

It’s the small things adding up.
Apps, heavy themes, images, scripts.

One of the biggest issues is CLS.
That’s when buttons or content move while the page loads.

You’ve probably seen it.
You go to click “Add to Cart” and it shifts.

That moment is where conversions drop.

The fix isn’t complicated:
• Set proper image dimensions
• Reserve space for dynamic elements
• Reduce unnecessary apps and scripts

Small changes can make a real difference.

If your store feels unstable, it’s worth fixing.

Shopify isn’t the limitation.

How you use it is.

The smartest brands aren’t replacing Shopify—
they’re composing around it.

→ Keep Shopify for what it does best
→ Add best-in-class tools where it matters
→ Build a stack that evolves with your business

That’s composable commerce.

And it’s how enterprise brands are scaling without rebuilding everything from scratch.

Explore the approach: https://www.sweans.com/composable-commerce-on-shopify/

Email or SMS, where should you actually put your marketing budget?

Both can drive revenue, but they work very differently. Email helps you build a relationship over time, while SMS is all about quick, high-impact moments.

The real answer isn’t choosing one over the other. It’s knowing when to use each, and how they work together.

If you’re running a Shopify store and trying to figure that out, this breakdown will help.

Most Shopify stores make the same mistake within 3 seconds.

They offer a discount.

The “10% welcome pop-up” might boost short-term conversions, but it quietly trains customers to:
• Wait for deals
• Question your pricing
• Compare instead of commit

And over time, that erodes both margins and brand value.

There’s a better way.

The anti-discount model helps premium brands increase profit, attract better customers, and build long-term loyalty without relying on coupons.

Choosing between custom themes and ready-made themes is one of the first decisions when building an eCommerce store. It may seem like a simple choice, but it can have a long-term impact on performance, flexibility, and growth.

Ready-made themes offer a quick and cost-effective way to launch. Custom themes, on the other hand, give you greater control over user experience, speed, and scalability.

The right approach depends on where your business is today and where you want it to go. Making the wrong choice early can lead to limitations, rework, and missed opportunities later.

If you are planning to build or scale your eCommerce store, it is worth taking a step back and getting the foundation right.
