Case Study 1: FTTP Build Quality Audit for a Institutional Investor

Client: A private equity firm conducting due diligence on a potential acquisition of a regional AltNet.

Challenge: The investor needed an independent technical assessment of the target company's recently completed FTTP network covering 15,000 premises. They wanted to verify build quality, compliance with Openreach specifications, and identify any latent defects that could impact future maintenance costs.

Solution: Miketel was engaged as an independent telecoms engineering consultant. We:
Conducted a sampling audit of 50 randomly selected premises across the network footprint.
Performed physical inspections of external plant (poles, chambers, CBTs) and internal installations (CPS, ONT).
Reviewed a sample of OTDR traces and test results from the build phase.
Analysed the target's as-built records and GIS data for accuracy.

Result: Delivered a 25-page technical due diligence report identifying:
3% of sampled installations with minor non-compliances (rectified before acquisition).
No systemic defects or "technical debt" that would impact valuation.
Recommendation to increase warranty provisions by 0.5% based on observed installation quality.

Outcome: The investor completed the acquisition with adjusted terms, directly informed by our findings. They retained Miketel for post-acquisition quality assurance on the next phase of network expansion.

Case Study 2: Network Recovery & Integration for an Acquired SaaS Company

Client: A fast-growth SaaS platform company, recently acquired by a US-based private equity group.

Case Study: Structured Cabling & Network Refresh for a Financial Services Headquarters

Client: A wealth management firm relocating to a new 15,000 sq ft headquarters in Canary Wharf, London.

Challenge: The client needed a future-proofed, high-density network infrastructure to support 150+ staff, traders, and support personnel. The new shell-and-core office space required a complete Category 6A cabling installation, with zero tolerance for downtime post-occupancy.

Solution: Miketel was engaged as the lead data cabling and network infrastructure contractor. We:
· Designed and installed a structured cabling system supporting 300+ data points across open-plan, meeting rooms, and trader floors.
· Installed two new equipment racks with redundant patch panels, cable management, and fibre backbone links.
· Terminated and tested all copper and fibre links to certified standards (Fluke DTX).
· Worked alongside the main fit-out contractor to ensure cabling was completed ahead of floor finishes and decoration.

Result: All 324 data points passed certification first time. The move completed on schedule, with zero post-occupancy network faults traced to cabling. The client now has a 10-year warranty on the entire structured cabling system.

Case Study 1: SD-WAN Deployment for a Professional Services Firm.

Client: A law firm with 5 offices across the South of England, employing 200+ staff.

Challenge: The firm's MPLS network was expensive, inflexible, and nearing contract renewal. They needed a more cost-effective, resilient solution to support their increasing use of cloud-based case management software and VoIP telephony.

Solution: Miketel was engaged to project manage the transition from MPLS to SD-WAN. We:
Audited existing connectivity and on-premise hardware at all 5 sites.
Designed and procured new SD-WAN appliances and backup 4G failover links.
Coordinated with multiple underlying carriers to install new broadband circuits.
Staged, configured, and deployed all hardware across the 5 sites with minimal disruption.
Provided on-site training for the firm's IT manager on the new management platform.

Case Study 2: Legacy PABX Decommissioning & SIP Trunk Migration for a Manufacturing Plant

Challenge: The client was still running a 20-year-old on-premise PABX system. The hardware was unreliable, support contracts were becoming prohibitively expensive, and they were struggling to integrate modern call centre features for their sales team.

Conducted a benchmark survey to quantify signal dead zones across all floors.
Designed a passive DAS using a network of wideband antennas and coaxial cabling.
Installed donor antennas on the hotel roof and ran new feeder cabling through service risers.
Commissioned the system, integrating signals from all four major UK MNOs (EE, Vodafone, O2, Three).

Result: 100% mobile coverage across all previously dead zones. Guest satisfaction scores relating to "in-room connectivity" improved by 35% in the following quarter. The hotel now markets its basement events space as "fully connected" – a unique selling point for corporate bookings.

Case Study 1: Emergency Network Recovery for a Hospitality Group

Client: A regional hotel and pub chain with 8 properties across the South West.

Challenge: A catastrophic router failure at their central booking office took down the entire group's reservations system, EPOS tills, and guest Wi-Fi across all sites during peak summer season. The client's existing IT support provider was unable to resolve the issue after 24 hours.

Solution: Miketel was contacted as an emergency resource. We:
Remotely diagnosed the failure as a corrupt SD-WAN configuration and failed primary router.
Arranged for an engineer to attend the central site within 2 hours with replacement hardware.
Rebuilt the network configuration and restored connectivity in a staged manner.
Implemented a backup 4G failover solution to prevent future single-point failures.

Result: Full network restored within 6 hours of initial call. The client estimated they would have lost over £15,000 in cancelled bookings and revenue had the outage continued into a second day. We were retained to review and harden their entire network infrastructure post-incident.

Case Study 2: Fibre Backhaul Installation for a Rural ISP

Client: A community benefit society building a gigabit-capable network in a remote rural area.

Challenge: The client needed to connect their new network to the internet via a 15km fibre backhaul link across difficult terrain, including farmland and a river crossing.

Solution: Miketel provided specialist outside plant engineering expertise. We:
Surveyed and planned the route, securing wayleaves from three landowners.
Managed a directional drilling contractor for the river crossing.
Supervised the fibre blowing, splicing, and termination.
Tested and commissioned the link (OTDR, power meter).

Result: Successfully delivered the 15km link on time and on budget. The ISP was able to launch services to 250 previously underserved premises, securing government rural broadband funding for phase two.
