What’s missing from the airport experience in 2026?

2026 is already shaping up to be a defining year in global sport, with landmark tournaments and international fixtures accelerating a fundamental shift in fan behaviour.

This new generation of fans aren’t just attending the game - they’re curating an experience. With passports in hand, they’re travelling internationally to watch live sport, seeking spaces that set the tone for their trip from the very beginning, even before take-off.

For the modern travelling fan, the journey starts at the airport.

They are increasingly willing to invest in premium lounges, elevated F&B, and thoughtful amenities that enhance dwell time and build anticipation. Yet many airports fall short, missing a critical opportunity to connect emotionally with fans and unlock incremental revenue.

The beautiful fabrics featured across Shwen Shwen are mostly British-made so they are not just design choices, but also considerate of transport and paying homage to Maria’s story of now living in England. The props are from her collection too.

We’ve just posted a blog today celebrating the story of Shwen Shwen and what’s been happening since the restaurant opened in May last year. Go to “latest news” on our website to read and make a reservation now… the success continually grows.

Beautiful banquettes

Design Director Natasha Gavin said this about a recent fine dining restaurant; “In Banks On The Wear, we aimed to create a synchronicity between the materials which felt authentic to the narrative we wanted to project throughout the space. The interior needed to link seamlessly from the farm-to-fork ethos of Tommy Banks’ restaurant concept, to the raw and honest materials which nod towards the industrial roots of the city, while seamlessly sitting within a welcoming and sophisticated hospitality space.”

See our website for further details on the project.

Some call it fancy, we call it Shwen Shwen

The story of this incredible restaurant has recently evolved in a big, big way for Executive Chef and Founder Maria Bradford. Not only have they become part of the Michelin Guide and landed themselves in the Top 20 restaurant openings in 2025 in the FT, but on Monday, they won ‘Opening of the year’ at the Michelin awards. Just wow.

Maria responded to the question ‘What makes your restaurant so special’ by saying ‘we represent the under-represented and that is Sierra Leone.’ Naturally, Maria was stunned to have won this category, but we see her vision, we know of her hard work, and we applaud her absolute dedication. What an incredible journey Shwen Shwen has had in the last several months.

Maria and team - we are thrilled for you.

Building Brands into Place: AO Arena

When the brand AO took over the naming rights of the biggest and most famous arena in the north of England, it was a moment to be celebrated. Soon, the naming rights got extended to run a total of ten years, and the revitalisation kicked up a gear. There were various projects rolled into one- the masterplanning of the guest experiences, maximising the hospitality offering and making the venue fully branded ‘AO’.

This is Manchester’s Authentic Arena and we wanted to show how this arena gave a stage to so many icons. The Star Dressing Rooms, Green Room and back-of-house walkways became comfortable and beautiful spaces for our artists. We layered narratives inspired by iconic performances from Prince, Whitney Houston and Beyonce, as well as famous Manchester music venues, like the Hacienda and Twisted Wheel. The newly created Mezz Bar and Restaurant has become one of the greatest pre-show hangouts in the city. It is chic, modern and bold.

We also brought to life a brand new VIP entrance; a full 360-degree rebrand for all the various journeys fans and guests make in this venue. We conducted a thorough signage audit and created new guidelines to fully immerse the brand into the place.

Building Brands into Place: Doug Ellis Stand, Villa Park

The Doug Ellis Stand at Villa Park is more than just hospitality within a stand - it’s a place where history, community, and the club’s identity meet. Our work on this stand’s renovation focused on connecting these layers in a way that feels natural and enduring.

Through careful research and storytelling, we explored Aston Villa’s 150-year history - from its founding in the English Football League to the moments that define the club today. These insights shape every detail, from pitch-facing booths and atmospheric dining spaces to feature bars and unique F&B experiences tailored to each concept.

Subtle touches such as the intricate ceilings, tapestry wall hangings, and quotes from cherished Villans all celebrate the club’s heritage. The developed spaces now have contemporary layouts, open views of the pitch, and thoughtfully designed spaces bringing energy and life to the stand.

The result is spaces where fans feel connected to both the club and its history. It’s a quiet, considered transformation that proves how design can tell a story without shouting - a space that belongs to the community it serves.
