Balancing Screen Time in August
August is a good time to help children build healthy screen habits before school starts again. With more free time during the holidays, screen use can easily increase, so setting a few simple boundaries can make a big difference.
Too much screen time can affect sleep, reduce physical activity, and make it harder for children to switch off. It can also lead to more irritability, less concentration, and less time for family activities, outdoor play, and reading.
Try setting clear limits on when screens can be used, and encourage regular breaks. It also helps to create tech-free zones at home, such as the dinner table and bedrooms, so screens do not take over family time or bedtime.
As September gets closer, start easing children back into routines with earlier bedtimes, regular mealtimes, and more offline activities. The aim is not to remove screens completely, but to make sure they are part of a healthy balance.
A few small changes in August can make the return to school much smoother.
