I'm dreading bringing this one back to life! It's been stored in a garage for over 60 years! I can't move the carriage due to the rust. I've started, so I will finish. Keep you posted.

More info on Platen Rachet repair:
Imperial Good Companion T. UPDATE: I removed the platen and stripped down the racket. I found that the clutch that is fitted inside the platen was stuck in. There were 3 springs that should push the rods out to release the clutch, but they weren't. I cleaned the 3 rods with wire wool and extended the springs to give them more push. Had A challenge putting all back together. The line space claw and spring, and platen rachet kept all falling apart trying to merge it all together. I found a YouTube channel how to hold it all together, with loads of tough cotton. I decided to use a rubber band, I wrapped it around line space selector and claw, and another holding the rachet on the platen, stretching it to the other side of the platen. It slipped all in very easy, and I just cut the bands and pulled them away! All works great! Some images attached of my rubber band idea!

Not too bad for an 113 year old Oliver No.5 typewriter. Had problems trying to find a ribbon to fit. So I ended up trimming a touch of a new 10 yard ribbon.

My latest project. Oliver No.5 from 1912. This Typewriter seriously needs attention. Jammed Carriage, No Ribbon Drive and Lift, Broken Drawband and Spring, Jammed Platen, and lots of rust. Where do I begin?!

Let's take it a part and see!
