Your website builder owns your site, your domain, and sometimes your email.
Here’s what getting all three back looks like.
A Devon wedding photographer came to us on Wix. We rebuilt the whole thing:
13 pages, each written for the page it is. 54 photographs, every one with alt text written by hand. 450 image sizes generated at build, so a phone never downloads a desktop photograph. Six colour pairs caught failing accessibility contrast, and fixed.
The hard part was never the design. His business email ran through records buried in the old host — registrar, nameservers and every mail record moved by hand, in order, checked from the outside. Zero downtime, not one lost message.
And he runs it himself now. Enquiries, portfolio, the words on every page. No password to lose: he types his email, a six-digit code arrives, and he’s in. Every publish is a commit, so anything can be undone.
That’s the part most sites never get: it’s actually his.
