This rather interesting video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggUduBmvQ_4) sheds some light on the incredible value of airlines' loyalty programs. It's fascinating how these programs not only build loyalty with customers but also serve as a lucrative revenue stream for airlines. In fact, the video details how during the covid pandemic, when the airlines wanted collateral for a loan their loyalty programs were valued more highly than the airlines themselves!

Loyalty programs have become an integral part of the airline industry, fostering deeper connections with travellers and enhancing customer experiences. By offering enticing rewards and personalized benefits, airlines can incentivize customer loyalty and turn them into dedicated brand advocates.

However, what truly amazed me in this video was how airlines have evolved their loyalty programs into sophisticated financial assets. At BNI Prince Imperial, I attended a rather memorable presentation given by Jonathon Treviling on the paramount importance of a memorable tagline when introducing your business. Examples such as, "We're interested in the tooth, the whole tooth and nothing but the tooth," (although as a dentist shouldn't they also be concerned with the gums?) showed how a carefully crafted tagline can convey your brand's essence as well as, perhaps most importantly, creating a lasting impression. It is remarkable how a few carefully chosen words can elevate your identity and help you be remembered, and certainly worth investing some time in. At Receipts and Rewards we will have to consider a tagline that captures the essence of our business. Does anyone have any ideas?

Earlier this week I went along to Reset Connect, the UK's leading Sustainability & Net-Zero Event. I saw a large variety of companies helping to tackle the climate crisis in a variety of different ways, from platforms offering refurbished mobile phones and pre-loved baby items (https://theoctopusclub.com/) to those creating micro nuclear power plants (https://nanonuclearenergy.com/) and a green TV channel (https://greenbritaintv.com/). There's a lot of ingenuity, hard work and passion addressing the climate crisis and other environmental issues.

Feeling that the world is changing at an ever-faster pace is not uncommon, and this can be visualised in this chart showing the total number of patent applications every year. Here, the height of the graph indicates the pace of change showing how much more rapidly the world is changing compared to 40 or even just 20 years ago.

This change is prevalent within loyalty as businesses can revolutionize their customer reward strategy by moving to a digital solution. The advantages are:

1) Convenience: No more cumbersome physical cards! Customers can easily join and access their loyalty program through a mobile app, streamlining the entire process.

2) Personalization: Leverage customer data to personalize rewards, offers, and promotions. Tailor experiences based on individual preferences, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Printers can be somewhat temperamental, this page that I found being quite a striking example of one not working. As well as the inconvenience for the customer, there's also the staff time to try and sort the printer out as well as trying to figure out which printer cartridges are needed to be reordered. Hence, a switch to digital receipts, such as those offered by Receipts and Rewards, makes perfect sense.

Paper wasn't the only product to suffer from shortages and price increases in 2022. As well as soaring energy prices and shipping challenges caused by the pandemic, paper shortages (and hence price increases) were further exasperated by many products such as straws switching from plastic to paper.
These factors resulted in paper (and thermal paper) costs almost doubling from late 2021 to the end of 2022. Whilst there could be some drop off in prices as energy costs drop and global supply chains ease, there will still be a big increase from the levels of 2021.
Costs for Receipts and Rewards are not subject to the whims of the world paper markets and have kept constant the simple receipt solution remaining the same price as the paper for the receipts in 2021. In a uncertain world, Receipts and Rewards can provide a little bit of certainty.

We've been busy talking to retailers and consumers about the things we can do with digital receipts, and one thing that always comes up is the use of loyalty cards - retailers want to be able to reward their customers and encourage them back to their store, and consumers want them all in the one place where they can find them!

With this in mind, we've added new loyalty cards and vouchers section to our app. We also felt that it's good that everyone knows to expect the rewards, and so we've changed our name to Receipts and Rewards.

The next few weeks will see us completing our first POS integration and our first customers, so watch this space!
