Whether you're a beginner or a competent user, our PCKOP service has something for you! If you have never used a computer, but would like to have a go..........we can provide you with two hour demonstration sessions to help get you started. Your sessions include an introduction to the equipment and the chance to experience the internet, emailing, and other practical uses for yourself. Your demonstration can take place at our computer suite in Huyton, or in your own home if you find it difficult to travel. Alternatively, you could attend one of our local sessions. In partnership with Knowsley Social Services we provide social support for older people either in their own homes or in one of seven Clubs:
The Visiting Service
The Visiting Service is a home visiting service provided to housebound, isolated and vulnerable older people.In 1993 Knowsley Social Services Department asked Age Concern Knowsley to manage a Visiting Scheme for three years. This was based in the Prescot, Whiston and Cronton areas of Knowsley. Based upon the success of this scheme, the Visiting Service is now available throughout the Knowsley borough. The service operates for five days a week, from of 8.00am - 8.00pm. Service users receive one to two-hour visits each week, according to their need and expressed wishes. The essence of visiting is the companionship given to service users by our Visitors. Through the Visitor the service user receives social stimulation and gains contact with the community at large. Visitors and service user engage in friendly and confidential conversation from personal matters to just putting the world to rights. The befriending service also has a therapeutic element, providing some degree of prevention from symptoms that may result from isolation and loneliness. The Visitor may also provide some degree of rehabilitation following periods of illness, loneliness and bereavement. SOCIAL CARE FOR VULNERABLE, HOUSEBOUND OLDER PEOPLE
In partnership with Knowsley Social Services, we provide seven clubs across Knowsley. We provide social contact and monitoring for older people. This is a very special service for those mostly housebound to meet and spend social time, company and companionship. As part of the social activities, club members often go out for pub lunches, and are regularly taken out for day trips. The aim of the clubs project is to provide stimulation and enjoyment in a positive environment and thereby improving the quality of life for each club member. We enjoy games of prize bingo, quizzes, play your cards right, plus various other activities. We often have talks from various groups in the borough, for example the Falls group and Merseyside Fire Service have given demonstrations. INVOLVEMENT PROGRAMME
Our Involvement team and partners help older people get involved and empowered to have their say and find out what services are available for them. The team supports and facilitates Knowsley Older People's Voice:
