Snack-tember is back!

The month-long campaign run by British Nutrition Foundation is aimed at children and young people to encourage healthy, sustainable snacking. Nearly 1 million 5–16-year-olds across the UK took part last year and in 2026 they hope to double their reach and support 2 million youngsters to explore better snack choices.

Prior to the campaign’s launch last year, working within their brand guidelines, Ingenious designed a range of materials including a Snack-tember logo, posters, guides, social media and PowerPoint templates, which will feature once again in this year’s campaign. Our fun Snack-tember logo consists of a clean white font which stands out on a healthy green coloured background with a bite taken out, mirroring the strapline ‘Better snacking. One bite at a time.’

The campaign is timed for the return to school this month and information, activity ideas, recipes, posters and other materials are available on the British Nutrition Foundation website for teachers, parents, carers and caterers. We hope Snack-tember will be another huge success this year - the Ingenious team will certainly be engaging in some healthier snacking as a result!

Ingenious was saddened to hear of the death of Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama, aged 97. Famous for vivid paintings, sculptures and vast installations, Kusama is perhaps best known for her signature polka dots which feature in many works throughout her long career (and as some of you may know, we do love a dot or two here at Ingenious!)

Despite working loosely within the spheres of pop art and minimalism, Kusama was not embraced by the art world until later in her life when she reached superstar status as tickets for her shows sold out swiftly and fans would fans would queue for hours for a 30-second experience within her Infinity Mirror Room installations.

Her company, Yayoi Kusama Inc, states that the artist continued to paint until her final days, and will no doubt ensure that her vibrant works continue to bring joy to people around the world in years to come.

Her colourful creations drew large crowds and fetched some of the highest ever prices for a female artist.

International Dog Day is celebrated on August 26 and an opportunity to celebrate all things DOG! As well as celebrating all breeds, shapes, sizes and mixes, it recognises working dogs for their service and also promotes adoption of rescue dogs.

What better excuse to share some pics of Juno, Ingenious director Sharon’s 4-year-old Hungarian Vizsla, from the weekend when she went to A Grand Doggy Day out at Borde Hill in Sussex. Juno had the best day, and her top highlight was watching the exciting Flyball demonstrations and then having a go herself! Flyball is a lively and energetic canine sport where dogs take part in a relay race with jumps to retrieve a ball and return for the next dog do the same.

It was Juno’s first go at Flyball but definitely not her last…she absolutely loved it and wishes all her fellow canine companions a very happy International Dog Day!

Ingenious is always interested in the latest developments in design and innovation so our ears pricked up when we heard reports of researchers at Imperial College London who have worked with event planners to create the Bioloon, a fully biodegradable party balloon.

Balloons pose a risk to marine wildlife and according to a recent study, balloon fragments are the marine debris most likely to kill seabirds that eat it. Even balloons that are labelled as 100% biodegradable often never fully break down, whereas the new eco-friendly balloon breaks down naturally in nine months.

The Bioloon costs the same to produce as a standard latex balloon and will be available commercially within a couple of years. The new rubber material, which involves a process that joins the biodegradable materials together without any harmful additives, could also be used to make surgical gloves and condoms in the future.

World Photography Day takes place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. This global event celebrates the art, history and science of photography. August 19 marks the anniversary of the daguerreotype patent purchase in 1839 when the French government released this photographic process to the world.

From daguerreotype to digital, photography has become the most powerful medium of personal expression and appreciation for countless people around the world. A photograph has the ability to capture a place, experience, idea, a moment in time. As the saying goes...a picture is worth a thousand words!

Here at Ingenious, the team are proud to share a few of their own photos for World Photography Day, all taken during this hottest of summers!

Social media brand Instagram has just launched its first refresh for ten years, with a new wordmark that has moved away from its old cursive script to a ‘cleaner and more modern’ look. Each letter is now separated - except for the n and s at the start of the mark which are still linked, as are the r and a towards the end.

The brand’s familiar colour gradient and signature camera logo remain in place and throughout the new branding there is an emphasis on community and creativity, together with a bid to win back a youth audience from TikTok and Snapchat.

Reaction has been mixed. Many comments point out that the new 'r' can read as a 'z' so not surprisingly, 'Instagzam' was quickly doing the rounds. Designers seem to be split down the middle with some relieved to see the cursive tidied up, while others unconvinced by a mark that's half script, half sans.

Here at Ingenious, we always like a refresh so it’s a thumbs up from us. What do you think?

August 13 is International Left Handers Day celebrating the 10-12% of people across the globe who are left-handed - including Ingenious director Sharon O’Shea!

Famous left-handers include Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Dolly Parton, Rafa Nadal, Lionel Messi, Prince William, Winston Churchill and David Cameron. Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, is also left-handed which is why many characters in the show, including Bart Simpson, are left-handers!

Our brains are cross-wired, meaning the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and vice versa. Researchers from the University of Oxford studied the brains of left-handed people and found the two sides of their brains better connected and more coordinated but claims that left-handers are more creative and better at art and music are not backed up by enough scientific evidence to be proved.

Most animals show a 50/50 split when it comes to which paw they use most, although kangaroos show a preference for their left paw when it comes to grooming and eating and parrots often pick things up with their left foot!

Historically left-handed people were treated with suspicion and even considered unlucky or evil and accused of witchcraft. Luckily this is no longer the case although they do sometimes face other challenges in a world that is largely designed for right-handers! Sharon reports that scissors and potato peelers are a particular challenge. She is a keen golfer in her spare time and has learnt to play on her right side as left-handed clubs are hard to get hold of!

If you are left-handed let us know any associated challenges you have faced!
