Hi,
I have been working as a graphic designer for 38 years. I started as a junior designer in 1985, in a small studio in Westcliff-on-Sea. I was there for six months before moving up to a London design studio. I was offered a job at Imagination in Covent Garden, but never took it, preferring a smaller studio for better pay! Mad with hindsight and it may not have been the best move, but still no regrets. Saying that, it didn’t take me long to realise that I preferred the nomadic freelance Graphic Designer lifestyle. I took half a dozen jobs before deciding it was the best option for me and have never looked back.
Oldest designer on the block? Managing to keep myself happy and busy freelancing, doing what I love to do.
For the last twenty years or so, I have worked solely from home. It seems I was ‘working from home’ before it was a thing and now everyone is doing it. A trendsetter am I. As an experienced, self-employed creative with 38 years experience, and a proven track record, I generally work independently, as and when required. I mainly work for a small group of clients, who I like and get on with. They trust my work and me, understand the way I work and I never take on a project that I either can’t do, or am unable to do, for whatever reason. I am not particularly corporate and don’t like the stuffy, regulated side of business.
Clients I have worked for:
HSBC, JLL, National Youth Teatre, City of London, Virgin, UAL, City of London, Essex County Council, Philip Morris International, Suffolk Council, The National Trust, City & Guilds, Bank of Chicago, Pennwell Publishing, Standard Life, Kinney Green, The Shoreditch Trust, Linklaters.
