Supporting small, buying the best and finding something extra special.
Are you supporting small? Shopping from the creative crafters? Buying from the ethical producers?
Share the love and join me and over 30 creatives. When you shop small/local/handmade, your small businesses are far more likely to use good-quality materials, have a focus on sustainability and renewability and actually put love and care into each item. Plus, shopping small often means shopping from a business with just one or two team members, meaning everyone’s paid fairly and your hard-earned money will end up in the right place.
When you buy locally, you can guarantee your money can stay within the local community and benefit others in your area and using local businesses means fewer emissions from transporting goods half way around the world.
Look forward to seeing you later and don't forget to tell your friends! Loads of wonderful makers are waiting for you!

About me..

I live in Chalkwell with my wife Katy, and two children, Anna 17 and Joe 14. I love painting and creating art. I also enjoy sport and the outdoors, especially pub beer gardens, walking, swimming, tennis and golf. I love to cook and more so, to eat, and any time I get stuck, I call my brother who is a professional Chef. I aspire to be half as good.
We spend as much of our free time in Céret, France where we have a house next to the Pont du Diable. Céret has a strong tradition of being a home for artists, especially painters and poets, including, Soutine, Aristide Maillol, and for a short time Picasso. There is a museum of Modern Art (Musée d’Art Moderne) in the town, with a great permanent exhibition on the ground floor, whilst the top floor hosts touring exhibitions.
Katy and I recently started a new venture, Folk & Bespoke. It promotes Artisans, Artists and Craftspeople in Essex. It has only been going a year. We have had an amazing first year, working with some great, very talented people. We give them the platform to sell their handmade products. Artists struggle at the best of times, but at the moment it’s even more challenging than normal. We have a strong ethos, trying to build a community where we help each other. The vendors are all curated and need to be of a high standard. This makes it fair to the vendors and the buyers, who are never disappointed with poor products or bought products. The reward has been incredible. Best story so far, was at a Christmas market where a vendor did really well. She came up to Katy at the end and said she can now afford Christmas. That’s what makes it so rewarding.
Katy also exhibits at the fair with her Joe & Anna range of products.

Hi,
I have been working as a graphic designer for 38 years. I started as a junior designer in 1985, in a small studio in Westcliff-on-Sea. I was there for six months before moving up to a London design studio. I was offered a job at Imagination in Covent Garden, but never took it, preferring a smaller studio for better pay! Mad with hindsight and it may not have been the best move, but still no regrets. Saying that, it didn’t take me long to realise that I preferred the nomadic freelance Graphic Designer lifestyle. I took half a dozen jobs before deciding it was the best option for me and have never looked back.
Oldest designer on the block? Managing to keep myself happy and busy freelancing, doing what I love to do.
For the last twenty years or so, I have worked solely from home. It seems I was ‘working from home’ before it was a thing and now everyone is doing it. A trendsetter am I. As an experienced, self-employed creative with 38 years experience, and a proven track record, I generally work independently, as and when required. I mainly work for a small group of clients, who I like and get on with. They trust my work and me, understand the way I work and I never take on a project that I either can’t do, or am unable to do, for whatever reason. I am not particularly corporate and don’t like the stuffy, regulated side of business.
Clients I have worked for:
HSBC, JLL, National Youth Teatre, City of London, Virgin, UAL, City of London, Essex County Council, Philip Morris International, Suffolk Council, The National Trust, City & Guilds, Bank of Chicago, Pennwell Publishing, Standard Life, Kinney Green, The Shoreditch Trust, Linklaters.
