To get a reliable signal, the antenna needs to sit in this specific corner, perpendicular to the rest of the device.

​What do you think of this form factor? Having the antenna stick out at this angle makes it pretty awkward to pack away in the kit. Would this bother you, or would you be fine with it?

​I’ve ordered a folding antenna to try out, but since it isn't tuned to the ideal length for the signal, it might not be a viable solution.

BFD Sentinel: Got your six!

Sentinel is the first-of-its-kind PIR motion-activated trigger add-on built for the BFD platform. You can run the BFD on its own as a delay BFG, or pair it with add-ons like Sentinel and the upcoming Vanguard (remote trigger).

Dry conditions held back field testing, but with the weather changing, testing will be back in full swing soon. Watch this space!

PCB Update: The new PCB design is finalized and ordered! This brings control to the add-on socket, unblocking add-on development.

Feature Request: Thanks to 8x more memory on the new MCU, I'll also be investigating user-requested delay programming.

Hardware Testing: I picked up a set of LoRa transceivers to test against our current RF solution. They're more expensive, but they promise super reliable remote control within 100m. Excited to start testing!

The development of BFD addons is also advancing, featuring remote control in video. Although the prototype is functional, a new PCB design is required as the current implementation fails to power off the addon, resulting in battery drain during deep sleep mode when not in use.

A new design of BFD will be provided for testing and long-term evaluation to some avid ai***fters starting this Saturday.

The new design features enhanced weather tightness but will require the use of a reload pin.

I’m finalizing the colour options for the first batch - which one is your favourite?

I’ll be doing a small initial drop very soon. Please note that this first version will not support planned add-ons, so I’ll be offering them at a discounted price.

These units are 100% functional BFDs, but PCB needed some changes to fully support planned add-ons (currently waiting for those boards to arrive). These are perfect for anyone looking for an ai***ft gr***de for use on soft surfaces.

Hey everyone! I’ve spent the last few months testing my latest BFD (Blank Firing Device) prototype during games and at home, and I’m finally ready to drop the new version in the shop. Here’s what’s changed based on my testing:

- Speeding things up: a 5-second delay was just too long for real-world play, so I’ve dropped it to 2 seconds. I still sometimes "cook" it for a second if I need an instant bang.
-Visual confirmation: I switched to a transparent button, so you can instantly see if the unit is on or off.
- No more lost gear: to save us all from hunting through the leaves, I’m offering a bright orange version.
- Hidden Tech: because that orange plastic is slightly see-through, you can now see the internal LED. I set up different blinking patterns for priming, firing, and idle - it was meant for debugging, but it's a nice bonus.

Using a custom PCB brings some great improvements, like an integrated LiPo battery that’s rechargeable via USB-C. However, it also means the newest version of the BFD will use a 5-second digital timer instead of a remote trigger.

More often than not, I’ve used various iterations of my RBFD by posting them through windows, around barricades, or through cracks in doorways—especially on woodland sites. I want to stress that it’s not intended to be thrown like a gr***de, but rather pushed into position or dropped onto soft surfaces such as grass or soil—places where impact gr***des just aren’t practical.

I’m continuing to learn more about electronics and I’m planning to release a wireless trigger as an add-on for the timed BFD. My goal is for it to work consistently and reliably over longer distances, so it can be used not only in regular skirmishes but also in mil-sims, where line of sight isn’t required for activation!

I still need to do some stress testing on the latest version, but I’m hoping to begin production in early 2026! And yes — I'm considering customisable plates to be an option!
