An update: it seems there is some common sense in the world. The Justice department have overruled the parole boards decision and are not allowing him to be moved to open prison, effectively keeping women safe from this psychotic predator.
I am highlighting an issue that is affecting far too many people: No justice for families!
Today the parole board informed us of the decision to allow my sister’s killer to be moved to an open prison after less than 11 years in custody.
He is not the only psychopath allowed to roam our streets and I thank Julian Hendy of 100 hundred families for his tireless work to challenge these decisions. The public deserve to know of these decisions. Infuriatingly, not even the victims families are given full details of how the decisions are made or any reassurances that he will not offend again.
Before he died my Dad, and founder of leedsplace, Glenn Simpson, wrote the following statement:
Our Gemma raised a smile in every room she entered, she was a young woman in the prime of life with decades in front of her. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, cousin to us and a true and loyal friend to so many.
We are left with broken hearts, having learned the horrific nature in which she died at the hands of Martin Bell.
When a loved one is missing, no matter for how long, a family is left in a state of uncertainty and worry.
Martin Bell left our family in complete limbo for 14 years - 4,980 days, almost 5,000 days of pain, worrying and fear for Gemma and her
As a grieving and stunned family, we were deeply hurt further by the tactics of Gemma’s killer in an attempt to evade the sentence that we believe he truly deserves.
Even today, my father’s words ring too true: Martin Bell is trying to evade his whole sentence after already manipulating the legal system for his purpose.
There is no justice for the family or Gemma!

The family of Gemma Simpson said her killer, Martin Bell, should serve his full sentence in a maximum security jail.
