What is the difference between an automation and an AI agent?

Imagine opening your phone this morning and seeing this 📱

That's exactly what happened to thousands of ASOS customers today after a notification appeared in the retailer's app claiming hackers had compromised company systems and were threatening to leak data. At the time of writing, investigations are ongoing and ASOS has not confirmed the full extent of any breach.

Most businesses think cyber incidents start with systems going offline or a ransom demand behind closed doors.

Instead, customers found themselves pulled directly into the story through a notification on their phones.

The reality is that cyber criminals don't just target global retailers 🎯

They target businesses of every size. In many cases, attackers actively look for smaller suppliers and third parties because they often have weaker cyber defences.

The consequences can be significant:
📉 Loss of sensitive data (and customer trust)
⏳ Downtime that impacts day-to-day operations
🔎 Regulatory investigations and potential fines
💰 Recovery costs

Yesterday we hosted our Cyber Security and Business Resilience Webinar in partnership with Leeds Digital festival 🖥️

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our guest speakers Jamie from CyberSmart and Barry from N-able for sharing their expertise.

We covered everything from the legal changes in the pipeline to protect business and customer data from emerging cyber threats to the most important ways a business can protect its people and data on a limited budget.

Jamie shared two actions every business leader can take straight away to reduce their exposure to cyber attacks:

✅ Turn on Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Passwords are still being stolen every day. MFA adds a second layer of security, making it significantly harder for cyber criminals to access accounts using compromised credentials.

✅ Create an asset inventory
Understand every device connected to your business. If you don't know what's in your environment, it's difficult to protect it.

Last week we hosted our first AI for business leaders workshop and it was exactly the kind of event we hoped it would be.

A room full of business leaders having honest conversations about AI. Not which tool is best, but where they're losing time, and where AI can be introduced in a measurable way to support this.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us as part of Leeds Digital Festival, and to Fiona Challis for sharing her expertise and helping bring the discussion to life.

One message came up time and time again throughout the morning: Start with the problem, not the technology. The businesses getting the most value from AI aren't starting with agents, they're starting by identifying repetitive tasks, operational bottlenecks and processes that consume time without adding value. These can be replaced by AI, giving their team time back to spend elsewhere.

It was also fantastic to share our own journey as "Customer Zero" and demonstrate what we've learnt by applying AI in our own business first. From identifying more than 150 automation opportunities to saving over 200 hours of management time in just 30 days.
