Google is finally giving marketers a clearer view of AI search visibility ๐
Google is testing dedicated Search Console reporting for its AI-powered search experiences, helping website owners understand how their content appears across generative search features.
๐ Key updates:
โ
Dedicated reporting for AI Overviews, AI Mode and AI-powered Discover experiences
โ
AI impressions segmented by page, country, device and date
โ
Clearer visibility into which URLs appear in Google's AI search experiences
โ
New opt-out controls are being tested, allowing publishers to exclude content from AI features without impacting traditional search visibility
โ
Rolling out initially to a subset of UK sites
โ Reporting doesn't include clicks, which shows the increased movement towards "answer-first" formats
โ Platforms such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude or Microsoft Copilot are not included
๐ฅก What Molly, our Performance Marketing Exec, takes from this:
This is a significant step forward for SEO reporting. For the first time, businesses can isolate visibility within Google's AI search experiences rather than having it combined with standard Search data.
However, without click metrics and cross-platform visibility, it remains an early visibility signal rather than a complete measure of AI search performance.
