DCS Inspiring Futures at Rossett School Careers Day

Rossett School in Harrogate recently hosted its annual Careers Day, giving students the chance to explore a wide range of career paths. Barry Rankin (Sales Director), and Foley Nkem (Apprentice IT Engineer) enjoyed sharing their experiences and insights into the world of IT service and technology.

Barry & Foley highlighted the exciting opportunities within the IT sector and there was much talk around the development of AI. Students were particularly engaged by discussions around IT support and service, with many expressing a keen interest in programming; showing a lot of enthusiasm for many recent projects completed by DCS on e-commerce integration with a accounts software, CRM software, service management and property management.

As a new apprentice at Deans Computer Services, Foley’s input proved extremely popular. Students were eager to learn more about apprenticeships, asking questions about the experience required and the qualifications recommended to get started. Foley’s perspective gave them a relatable and inspiring example of how determination and practical learning can open doors to rewarding careers in technology.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to ask questions, gain inspiration, and see how their skills and passions could translate into future careers. By connecting education with industry, Rossett School continues to empower its students to think ambitiously about their futures.

Harrogate Grammar School Careers Fair 20/11/25

Yesterday, Deans Computer Services had the pleasure of attending the Harrogate Grammar School Careers Fair, an inspiring event that brought together students, parents, and local employers to explore future opportunities.

👩‍💻 Engaging with Students and Parents
Throughout the evening, Barry Rankin (Sales Director) and Adam Findlay (Technical Director) met with a wide range of students and their families, discussing the exciting and ever-evolving world of IT solutions and software. We explained the breadth of our role as a trusted IT provider — covering everything from managed services and cloud solutions to cybersecurity and software development.

🎓 Highlighting Accreditations and Apprenticeships
One of the most rewarding aspects of the fair was sharing details about the student accreditations recommended for a career in IT and apprenticeship schemes. These pathways provide young people with the chance to gain hands-on experience, earn industry-recognised qualifications, and build a career in technology. It was encouraging to see so much enthusiasm from students eager to learn more about how they can start their journey in IT.

📈 A Busy and Well-Attended Event
The Careers Fair was extremely well attended, and we were kept busy throughout the day answering questions, offering guidance, and sparking conversations about the future of technology. The level of interest shown by students and parents alike was a testament to the growing importance of IT in every sector.

Job Title: Sales Account Manager

Location: Wetherby, LS22 5NB

Salary: competitive plus uncapped commission

Founded in 1982, with a team of 35 staff, DCS is an employee-owned IT company providing clients with a comprehensive portfolio of products and professional services. We offer services for all aspects of computer systems from conception and design through to implementation and on-going technical support.

Our offerings include IT hardware, cyber security, SAAS, cloud, accounting software and add-ons, CRM software and bespoke solutions. We provide services to cover all stages of an IT project to small and medium sized companies mainly across Yorkshire and the surrounding area.

Our clients range from small local companies to international corporations and cover a wide range of industries.

A full-time opportunity has arisen to join our sales team, based in our Wetherby offices, with the option for 2 to 3 days per week remote working following a successful probationary period.

You will take over management of around 100 existing customer accounts, the role is 80% focussed on account management with 20% of the role being business development to ensure continued growth for the business.

Consideration will be given to either a junior person, with a good knowledge of IT and some sales experience, or a more experienced account manager looking for a new challenge.

Key Responsibilities
• Act as one of three main points of contact for customer sales enquiries
• Consult with clients to provide the best solution to their needs
• Provide quotations
• Be ambassador for the business
• Attend occasional sales events and roadshows
• Work with the management team to grow the business
• Attend demonstrations with one of our product experts

Key Skills
• Experience in sales and account management
• Some IT knowledge and experience
• Great customer service skills
• Ability to multitask and work with high accuracy and attention to detail
• Willing to learn new products and services
• Organised and flexible
• Autonomous and able to use own initiative to make decisions
