We did it!!!

Yesterday, we made the first positive step forward in our allergy journey—our son successfully passed his “hazelnut challenge” 🙌⭐️

It honestly felt like the longest 3.5 hours of our lives… lots of waiting, worrying, and hoping for no reaction 😩🙏

Our boy was an absolute superstar. Not a single complaint, not one “what time can we go home?”, not a single “I don’t want to do this.” He just calmly went through the process, with Mummy and Daddy right by his side.

We couldn’t be more proud of him ❤️

Yes, we still have walnut and pecan to think about, but after 7 years without real progress, this feels like the best result for us right now.

For anyone going through a similar journey, our inbox is always open.

Thank you all for the kind words and support over the last few months.

Talking about this topic not only raises awareness, but also reminds us how many families are affected—and how much sharing our experiences can help one another 🤝🫂

Have a lovely day, everyone!

A really important step forward for allergy safety in schools 👏

The announcement that allergy awareness training will become compulsory in schools in England is very welcome news.

Food allergies are now a reality in many classrooms. For too long, many families have had to rely on individual teachers or schools going above and beyond to understand the seriousness of allergic reactions and how to respond if something goes wrong.

Training will not solve everything, but it gives staff the confidence to recognise the signs of an allergic reaction and act quickly when it matters most.

It is also a reminder that meaningful change in this space too often follows tragedy 💔 We can only hope that steps like this encourage more proactive action in the future.

Allergy safety should never depend solely on parents advocating for their children. It should be built into the systems designed to care for them.

Our thoughts are with Benedict Blythe’s mum, Helen Blythe, and her family, who have campaigned tirelessly for these changes.

This is what great hospitality looks like ✨

We are planning a special trip to Venice as a family 🛶, and food is one of the things that really matters to us — especially when allergies are involved 🍽️.

We reached out to a hotel with a few questions, and this was their response.
Simple. Positive. Reassuring. 💬

No complicated language, no copy-and-paste disclaimers — just a willingness to help and make guests feel welcome 🤝.

And honestly, that makes all the difference when deciding where to stay 🏨.

We’ve had very different experiences in the past — from limited breakfast options 🥐 to standard “can’t guarantee” replies from staff who clearly weren’t trained to handle allergy questions.

Guests don’t expect perfection — they want to feel heard ❤️.

Sometimes great hospitality starts with a simple email 📧.

Have you ever chosen a hotel or restaurant because of how they responded to you before booking?

It’s almost Christmas and there is just one last thing to say...

Merry Christmas and we hope you have a lovely day!!! 💚🎅🎄

Whether you are spending it with family and friends, on your own, or you are going away, we hope your Christmas is filled with love and laughter.

And remember, you can enjoy your day, even if you have food allergies.

Thank you for all your support this year 🎄❤️⭐️

“May contain nuts.”

For many people, that doesn’t just mean be careful — it means… DON’T EAT HERE AT ALL ⚠️

More menus now proudly offer vegan, GF and dairy-free options 🌱

But when everything is also labelled may contain nuts, it sends a very clear message to those with nut allergies: you are not truly safe here.

Sometimes a blanket warning is absolutely the right choice ✅

But it should be based on real, unavoidable risk — not just legal protection.

Food should be about inclusion, trust and enjoyment 🍽️

Not fear.

If you live with a nut allergy, how do these warnings make you feel when choosing where to eat? 💬

Allergy win in Sunderland!

“Amazing! Safe to eat food!”

My Delhi is serving up incredible Indian dishes with zero nuts in the kitchen. Total peace of mind for peanut and tree nut allergies, plus food that has friends and family raving too.

This is what confident, delicious dining out feels like.

“Let’s just eat at home.”

If you have ever said this while scrolling through restaurant options, we get it.

Eating out with allergies can feel like too much effort, too risky, too uncertain.

And when that happens, it’s not just a meal you miss, it’s the experience, the connection, the joy of dining together.

That’s exactly why we created Allergy Companions, to make eating out feel safe again.

Find real reviews from allergy families who’ve been there, so you can book with confidence (and actually look forward to it).

🍽️ Explore trusted reviews on our website (and why not leave a review for a restaurant you visited recently to help another allergy family out! 😊)

Allergy win in Scarborough!

“We were losing hope of finding a safe ice cream.”

Peaches ‘n’ Cream stepped up with knowledgeable staff, clear allergen info and super careful prep that made this allergy family feel safe and valued. Fresh tub. Clean scoop. No fuss. No feeling like an inconvenience.

This is how ice cream should be for everyone.

The moment we’ve been looking forward to — and dreading — the most… 😬💛

Next Tuesday, we’ll be making our way to the hospital to start our first food challenge for our little boy, who turns 8 on Thursday this week 🎂✨

The thought of him eating the equivalent of 7 whole hazelnuts (hence the caption) fills us with absolute dread 🌰😟 but we know it’s a necessary step in his allergy care 🤍

Even though the challenge might not be successful, the idea of having one less allergen to worry about brings us so much hope 💫

His school have been wonderful, and we are meeting his teacher tomorrow to discuss how they can support him leading up to the appointment 🙏📚

Routine allergy appointments usually affect his anxiety levels and appetite, so we’re trying to prepare gently and thoughtfully.

We’ve talked about the challenge with him, but not in too much detail — we don’t want to trigger unnecessary fear 💛

Please send lots of good vibes our way… we really need them! ✨🤞💛

We will keep you posted on the results next week 📣

Dining out with allergies should be built on trust , not worry. 💛

Here is what to look for when you want to pick a restaurant that truly cares about allergen safety:

✅ Allergen menus that are clear, detailed, and up-to-date
✅ Staff who are trained, confident, and allergy-aware
✅ Kitchen practices that prevent cross-contamination
✅ Conversations that start early and stay consistent
✅ An attitude of transparency, not guesswork

If your restaurant (or a place you love) checks most or all of these boxes, chances are you’ll feel safer eating there.

Tag a restaurant that gets it or save this post for the next time you need a safe meal out.
