It is with a very heavy heart that I share this post. 💔
I was incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Ian Carey.
Ian had been a client of mine for over 10 years and was one of the people who supported me right from the very beginning, when I first set up my business and before.
Ian was an incredibly intelligent man, but he never once made me feel silly for asking a question or not understanding something. He always took the time to explain things, to listen and to help. Our conversations were rarely just about work either; he genuinely took an interest in everything, from how the business was going to how I was doing personally and with my health.
I always looked forward to our calls. What might have started as a quick conversation about marketing would quite often turn into a much longer chat about life, work and everything in between.
When you work with somebody for more than a decade, they become part of the journey with you. Ian was there from the early days of my business, continued to support me throughout the years, and I will always be incredibly grateful for the trust and kindness he showed me.
It feels very strange knowing there won't be another phone call or catch-up.
My thoughts are with Ian's family, the John Burke Associates team, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Thank you for everything, Ian. You will be very sadly missed. ❤️
It is with great sadness that we inform you that Ian Carey passed away peacefully on 5 August 2026 following a period of illness.
Ian was Technical Director of John Burke Associates and played a significant role in shaping the Clerk of Works department from its early beginnings. His knowledge, experience and dedication helped build the foundations of the business we are proud to be today.
Throughout his career, Ian was highly respected within the construction industry for his professionalism, expertise and commitment to the highest standards. He was always generous with his time and knowledge, supporting colleagues, clients and those around him.
But beyond his professional achievements, Ian was a genuinely kind, warm and thoughtful person. To those who had the privilege of knowing him, he was much more than a colleague; he was a valued friend and an important part of the JBA family.
Ian will be deeply missed by everyone at John Burke Associates, and by the many people across the industry whose lives he touched.
His legacy will live on through the company, the people he supported and the many lasting contributions he made throughout his career.
Rest in peace, Ian. Forever in our hearts.
