There is a filing deadline on Wednesday the 30th. Two minutes on Companies House tells you if it is yours.

Two different things land on the same date and they catch two different sets of people.

Annual accounts are due at Companies House on 30 September if your company year ended on 31 December 2025. A December year end is very common among small limited companies round here, so this one catches more people than you would think.

And a corporation tax return is due to HMRC on 30 September if your company year ended on 30 September 2025.

Here is how to check your own rather than take my word for it. Go to Companies House, search your own company name, open the overview page, and your next accounts due date is printed on it. It is free and it takes about two minutes.

If your accountant has it in hand then brilliant, ignore me. If you have not heard from them since the spring, that is two minutes well spent.

I am not an accountant and I am not touting for the work. It is just a date worth knowing.

Another Kirkham business, now online and looking the part πŸ™Œ

We've just launched the new website for Dine & Dessert on Market Square. It's Greek food, cocktails and a proper dessert parlour all under one roof. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out.

Here's what we built for them:
🍽️ Full menus for Greek food, desserts and cocktails
πŸ“… Online table booking, so guests can book in a minute without picking up the phone
πŸ›΅ A takeaway and delivery page that shows people exactly how to order
πŸ“ Local SEO set up from day one, so people searching for Greek food in Kirkham find them first

This is why we started Mensia. We're a Kirkham business too, and we love helping the independents on our doorstep look as good online as they do in person.

Take a look πŸ‘‰ dineanddessert.co.uk

Run a local business in Kirkham or anywhere on the Fylde, and your website isn't pulling its weight? Drop us a message. We'd love to help you next.

Most of what I build is invisible. Here is one that is not.

I design and build AI tools and integrations for restaurants. One of them grew into a product in its own right, a booking system called Eightish, and it is live.

The part worth explaining is the part a diary cannot do. A booking system organises the covers you have already got. This one reads the week ahead, picks the quietest night the owner has said it is allowed to fill, and offers the held tables to regulars who are overdue against their own pattern. A table that used to come in every other Thursday and has quietly stopped.

And every time it runs, one matching guest is held back at random and not contacted at all. If the held back ones book anyway, then the system was not the reason, and the report says so in plain English.

That is the bit I am proudest of, honestly. It is built so it can tell you when it did nothing.

eightish.co.uk if you want a look at it. I built it, and I will happily explain how any of it works to anybody curious enough to ask, restaurant or not.

Preston Guild 2032 is six years off and the council has already opened the form for ideas.

Preston City Council has opened it. The Guild runs every twenty years and goes back to 1179, when Henry II granted Preston a Guild Merchant, so this is the once in a career one for most people reading this. They are asking community groups, organisations and local partners for projects that would leave something behind afterwards.

Read the small print before you spend an evening on it. It is not a grant application, and sending one in does not guarantee funding or a place in the programme. The form asks about your organisation, the project, who it benefits, funding, timescales and how local people get involved.

It is free and it goes straight to the council:
preston.gov.uk/guild2032-expression-of-interest

And here is the offer. If you have got half an idea for it and you do not know how to write it up, send it to me and I will tell you honestly what I think of it and where I think it is thin. I will not follow it up with a sales call.

If you still pay your PAYE by cheque through the post, this month's deadline is Saturday.

HMRC wants cheque payments to have reached them by the 19th of the month. This month the 19th is a Saturday, so in practice the envelope needs to be gone a couple of days earlier than you might be used to.

If you pay electronically you have got until the 22nd, same as always.

I have not dressed this up. Both dates are on GOV.UK, under Pay employers' PAYE, and that is the whole post.
