Free cyber security workshop for Hull businesses

We are running a free three-hour cyber security session for local businesses on 18 June 2026 at the Louis Pearlman Centre, Hull.

The session has been commissioned by HCC Managed Workspace Centres and Hull City Council, so it is free for attendees.

This is for business owners, managers and teams who want simple, practical advice, not technical jargon.

We will look at:

✅ how phishing emails are becoming harder to spot
✅ how invoice fraud and payment scams happen
✅ what a ransomware attack can mean for a small business
✅ simple steps you can take to reduce risk
✅ how AI is making some scams more convincing

You do not need to be technical to attend.

The workshop is limited to 15 spaces, so booking is required.

Two weeks left to apply for our Junior Cyber Security Consultant role here in Hull.

This isn't a start from zero job. We're looking for someone who already has a good grounding in cyber security and wants to build a long-term career, not just find their next role.

You might have got there through a cyber course, IT or compliance work, training, the forces, or your own hands-on learning. What matters is that you're curious, reliable, clear in how you communicate, and serious about developing your skills.

It's office-based at our HCC Managed Workspace Centres, Hull office, so you'll need the right to work in the UK and to be within commuting distance. Ex-forces applicants are actively encouraged.

Applications close in two weeks. Email the team to find out more:

We’re hiring a Junior Cyber Security Consultant to join our team in Hull.

This is a role with a real future, a clear path to becoming a qualified IASME Cyber Essentials and IASME Cyber Assurance assessor and an ISO 27001 internal auditor, developing those skills as part of our team.

We’re looking for someone who communicates clearly, solves problems, and already has a sound grounding in cyber security, both the technical side and the compliance side and who wants to build a long-term career with us.

A degree is an advantage. Ex-forces applicants are actively encouraged: we hold the Armed Forces Covenant Bronze level, and one of our founders served in the British Army.

This is an office-based role at our Hull office, so you’ll need the right to work in the UK and to be within commuting distance.

When a client asks for IASME Cyber Essentials, they’re asking for real assurance, not just a document.

That assurance means something when it reflects genuine security controls. It means far less when the controls haven’t actually been implemented.

We help businesses build the security foundations that Cyber Essentials represents, so the certificate reflects reality. Your clients get real assurance, and your business gets the protection the scheme was designed to deliver.

IASME Cyber Essentials establishes the foundations. Cyber Essentials Plus verifies them independently. Together, they represent a structured approach to building genuine cyber resilience.

We guide businesses through both, assessing where you are, strengthening what needs strengthening, and certifying the outcome as an IASME-accredited Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus Certification Body.

It’s about genuine security improvement. The certification is the evidence of that.

Last year, we had a stand at The International Cyber Expo in London as part of the IASME Pavilion, which was a great opportunity to represent our work as an accredited IASME Certification Body.

IASME caught up with Tom from our team on the day to get his thoughts on the experience.

Are you planning to attend the International Cyber Expo this year?

In IASME Cyber Essentials, there are questions where the wrong answer doesn’t just flag a gap, it ends the assessment immediately, regardless of everything else.

Most businesses only discover this after the fact.

We work with organisations before the assessment to ensure the right controls are genuinely in place. The questions that can end the process are the ones we focus on first.

Most businesses don’t fail IASME Cyber Essentials because they’re insecure.

They fail because the basics weren’t in place before they started the process.
Policies. Documented controls. A clearly defined scope. These aren’t box-ticking exercises, they’re the foundations the standard is built on. Without them, certification becomes a stop-start cycle of remediation and resubmission, usually against a deadline that didn’t leave room for either.

As an IASME-accredited Certification Body, we see the same pattern often: businesses rushing into the questionnaire before they’ve put the building blocks in place.

That’s why we offer a single, joined-up route, readiness support to help you get the fundamentals right, followed by certification through our own assessment team. No handoffs. No mixed messages. Just a clear path from “where are we now?” to certified.

If Cyber Essentials is on your roadmap, let’s have a conversation before the clock starts.

Two patching questions are now auto-fail under IASME Cyber Essentials v3.3.

Are all high or critical updates for operating systems and firmware applied within 14 days of release? Are all high or critical updates for applications applied within 14 days of release?

Fail either and the assessment fails. Full stop.

The 14-day window is not new. What is new is the auto-fail status, and the expectation that coverage is genuine across your entire estate, not just the devices that happen to be in front of the assessor on the day.

If your patching relies on luck or last-minute effort before renewal, v3.3 will surface that.
