Workshop progress

Another rack ready for site — this one being the media rack. The network rack is already installed, connected, and tested onsite, with this rack sitting underneath to house Sonos music, monitor audio power amps, TV sources, and video over IP via Blustream and araknis controlled by control4.

RGB LED: The Next Step in Premium Home television

Display technology is moving forward again. RGB LED backlighting is emerging as a meaningful upgrade for high-end residential AV—especially within the LCD category.

Unlike traditional Mini-LED TVs that rely on white or blue LEDs and colour filters, RGB LED uses separate red, green, and blue LEDs in the backlight. This reduces colour filtering losses and delivers purer colours, higher brightness, and improved HDR performance—while remaining an advanced LCD display (not self-emissive like OLED).

Why it matters:

• Higher peak brightness for real-world living spaces

• Improved colour accuracy and wider colour gamut

• Strong contrast when paired with advanced local dimming

Screen size doesn’t change the technology benefits—choosing the right display is about matching viewing distance and room conditions, not just going bigger.

Who’s leading:

Hisense has brought RGB Mini-LED to market at scale, Samsung is expanding size options with RGB-based models, and Sony has demonstrated impressive “True RGB” prototypes, with consumer releases still to come.
