We need your ideas 👀

As some of you already know, there’s currently a bit of hammering, drilling and general chaos going on behind the scenes at The Gadget Refuge. Our new city centre premises is getting its refit ready for us to officially open towards the end of September. 🎉and seeing as it’s ultimately being built for our customers, we thought we’d ask you.

What would you actually like to see in The Gadget Refuge?

A comfy place to sit while we fix your phone?
A coffee while you wait? ☕
Charging points?
Somewhere you can pop in with one of those “I know this is probably really simple, but…” tech questions?
Or something we haven’t thought of at all?

Sensible suggestions welcome.

Ridiculous suggestions also welcome, although Stuart may draw the line at a licensed bar. 😂

Good service shouldn’t be an optional extra.

💜 We charge for the repairs.

The kindness and patience come free. 😄

No hourly rate for explaining things twice, no surcharge for “I have absolutely no idea what I’ve pressed”, and no extra fee for asking us a tech question that you think might be daft.

There’s no such thing, by the way.

Also, a very big “thank you” to our lovely customer that also showed kindness by taking the time to leave this review🙏

⏱️It seems like we’ve all been waiting a long time for the much talked about iOS 27. Here’s a couple of important details you do need to know.

A bit of good news if you’re hanging on to an older iPhone 👏
Apple isn’t dropping support for any additional iPhone models with iOS 27.
That means if your iPhone can currently run iOS 26, it should also be able to make the move to iOS 27, including the iPhone 11, which first appeared way back in 2019.
So, no need to start eyeing up a new phone just because there’s a new iOS on the way.

There is a bit of a catch though…
Being able to install iOS 27 doesn’t necessarily mean your iPhone will get all of its new Apple Intelligence features.

For those, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Apple Intelligence does much of its processing directly on the device, so it needs the extra power of an A17 Pro chip or later.It’s a similar story with iPads and Macs , you’ll generally need an M1 chip or newer to access the Apple Intelligence features supported by the latest software.So, your older iPhone may still be perfectly happy running iOS 27… it just won’t get all the clever AI bits.

🎂 THREE YEARS OF THE GADGET REFUGE! 🎂

Three years ago today, The Gadget Refuge started out with a pretty simple intention, to offer good, honest tech repairs, be flexible, and look after people properly.

Three years later and our business is still young but oh how we’ve grown and developed!!😳

We’ve won business awards, received more than 200 brilliant customer reviews, travelled all over Inverness collecting and returning devices, even taken The Gadget Refuge to Belladrum.
We’ve introduced postal repairs to help customers further afield across the Highlands & Islands, worked evenings and weekends for people who have needed us and Pixie has become a recognisable feature zipping around Inverness. 🚗

All this being said, probably the biggest high has been seeing what The Gadget Refuge has become within our community.
People recommend us. They come back. They stop us when they see Pixie. They trust us with their tech, send their friends and family our way and feel comfortable just messaging us for a bit of advice.
All this means an enormous amount to us. So today there’s no big sales pitch. Just a very genuine thank you to everyone who has been a part of our first three years.

Here’s to year four… looking forward to the opening of new premesis in the City centre and to whatever gets dropped, smashed, soaked or mysteriously “just stops working” next. 😂💜

You might have spotted a little liveried Smart car buzzing around Inverness… that’ll be our Pixie. 🚗 She’s small, slightly hard to miss and a very important part of how we do things at The Gadget Refuge.
We’ve never really believed that getting your phone or tablet fixed should involve reorganising your entire day.

For us, it’s all about keeping things flexible. If you can’t get to us…We’ll come to you. If you’re busy during the day…We do evening repairs too. If you run on a slightly awkward schedule…Tell us, we’re pretty good at working around those.

So if you spot a little liveried Smart car whizzing around, that’ll be Pixie out on Gadget Refuge business.

🚀🏆 Absolutely over the moon! 🏆🚀

What an incredible milestone for The Gadget Refuge Highlands and Islands! ❤️

We are absolutely delighted and genuinely humbled to have been announced as one of just three finalists for the Highland Business Award for Most Promising New Business! 🙌

To see our little family-run business recognised alongside two other fantastic Highland businesses is something we’re incredibly proud of.

The last couple of years have been a huge journey for us — plenty of hard work, long days, challenges, learning and, most importantly, a determination to build something that our customers and the Highlands can be proud of. 📱🔧

Being recognised in this way gives us an enormous boost and makes all the hard work feel even more worthwhile. 💪

A massive thank you to the Inverness Chamber of Commerce, Business Gateway and everyone who has supported us, trusted us with their devices and helped us get to this point. ❤️

And huge congratulations to Oliver's Highland Pet Crematorium and We Are Thryve — it’s an absolute honour to be standing alongside you both as finalists! 👏

Whatever happens on 25 September, being named a finalist is already a huge achievement for us.

🍎 Right then… it’s official. Apple has set the date.

Wednesday 9th September at 6pm UK time is when we’ll finally find out which of the recent Apple rumours were right and which were complete nonsense. 😂
Apple hasn’t actually confirmed what it’s unveiling yet, so despite all the talk of new iPhones and that very intriguing folding iPhone, we’re keeping those firmly in the rumour box for now.

We’ll be watching on the 9th and will give you the Gadget Refuge version afterwards: what’s new, what it costs in the UK, what’s genuinely useful and whether your current phone really needs to start worrying.

iFans…

🍎 September is coming which means Apple is about to make your perfectly good phone feel strangely old.

Apple’s big September event is expected around 8th/9th September, and this year could be a particularly interesting one.

We’re expecting the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, alongside something Apple fans have been waiting a very long time for …drum roll…Apple’s first folding iPhone!!

However, if you’re waiting for the standard iPhone 18, you may be waiting a little longer. That isn’t currently expected until spring 2027.

Prices? Apple hasn’t told us yet. Rumours suggest the new Pro models may cost more, while the folding iPhone is unlikely to be troubling the word “budget”. 😬what a surprise!

We’ll be watching the announcement and, once Apple makes everything official, we’ll do our usual Gadget Refuge rundown , e.g. what’s actually new, what’s useful and whether your current iPhone suddenly needs replacing just because Tim Cook says there’s a new one.

Spoiler: it probably doesn’t. 😂

You’ll probably know The Gadget Refuge for phone and tablet repairs, but something we perhaps don’t mention enough is that you don’t actually need to have a broken device to message us.

It could be that you have a setting that’s suddenly changed? Something not working the way it used to? A random notification you don’t understand? Or just one of those annoying little tech things that you’ve spent far too long trying to figure out?

Don’t sit there sweating the small stuff! Drop us a message. We’re always happy to help, even if it turns out to be a really simple fix.
If it does need a proper repair, we can sort that too, with Pixie 🚗 on hand for our collection and return service.
