Every so often the people of Auchmithie HAAR and devoted individuals put the past back on.
Not as costume.
Not for show.
So the rest of us can meet it, carry something of it, keep it, and pass it onwards.
This short film was made from limited footage and stills shot on the day of the HAAR Heritage event. The aim was simple: tell a story of the unity this small village and HAAR group display.

Face paints , geology tours, fishy photo booths and even a wedding. With the most of the men off to sea, it was a day experiencing how the young women and fishwives were left to the running of the village - oh and who could forget the sooty air of the good auld Auchmithie smokie, washed down with a good ol' cuppie with song! With thanks to all involved and for their dedication & commitment.

Well.. from the fishwives themselves - the Arbroath Smokie origins lie in little old Auchmithie and rightfully is the Auchmithie smokie.
We spent last Saturday at Auchmithie HAAR Heritage Day. A proper wee slice of local history.
Highlights from the day:
19th-century re-enactments at St Peter’s Church: fisherfolk bringing the village story to life.
We go to see the legendary Auchmithie Smokie made from start to finish in the churchyard.
Free village hall session try on traditional costumes, kids face painting and the photobooth/ fishers mural.
Doon the Brae with geology fun for kids (and adults!) on the beach, learning about the local geology, past and present!
Afternoon reprises so no one missed the re-enactments or Smokie scene.
To top it all off....An Auchmithie wedding at The Steading with the full traditional send-off.
Closing the day with fond farewells and Auld Lang Syne back at the Village Hall
It was free entry, free parking, teas and drinks running all afternoon, thanks 🙏 to everyone involved it was a great turn out and days out.
