I couldn’t not share these beautiful artichoke thistles I came across at Haddo House today 😍

I absolutely love that burst of purple coming through the spiky green buds, they’re so striking, and definitely one of those flowers that makes you stop for a closer look.

They’re actually Cardoons (Cynara cardunculus), also known as artichoke thistles, and are closely related to the globe artichoke. They can grow incredibly tall too, sometimes well over 2 metres, with huge silvery-grey leaves and these gorgeous purple-blue, thistle-like flowers.

Spotted these gorgeous dahlias today while visiting the beautiful Haddo House, had to snap a picture for future inspiration.

These specific dahlias are a vibrant, double-flowered yellow and orange Dahlia, closely resembling the classic formal decorative variety Dahlia 'Glorie van Noordwijk' (also known as Noordwijks Glorie).

And here’s how I turn a little bit of that inspiration into my own artwork.

From spotting beautiful flowers while I’m out and about, and bringing them into my Birth Month Collection, this is my take on the September aster, paired with a hand-finished gold foil initial.

I love that so much of the inspiration behind Bloom & Kin starts with real flowers and places I’ve visited. It makes each design feel that little bit more special.

A little late for September, but I couldn’t resist sharing these beautiful asters I spotted today while wandering around Pitmedden Garden & Museum of Farming Life 🌸

Most likely Michaelmas daisies (Symphyotrichum), asters are one of September’s birth flowers, and these soft lilac blooms were just too lovely not to capture.

Such a beautiful place, and so much floral inspiration everywhere you look.

I was visiting Fyvie Castle yesterday and spotted these beautiful chrysanthemums in the walled garden 🌸

Row upon row, in the most amazing colours, I couldn’t resist stopping to take a few photos. They were absolutely gorgeous.

It felt especially fitting with November quickly approaching, with chrysanthemums being November’s birth month flower.

Chrysanthemums are often associated with love, loyalty and longevity, and they’re also traditionally linked with motherhood, which makes them such a lovely flower to celebrate the mums and November-born people in our lives.
