Nine new technologies, including faster MRI brain scans and a remote cognitive assessment, are to be tested in the NHS as part of a government drive to diagnose dementia more quickly.

As reported in The Carer, The Dementia Challenge is backed by up to £80 million and funded by the UK government. Its goal is for 92% of people to be diagnosed within 18 weeks of referral.

Congratulations to OG Podcasts and Guernsey Alzheimer's Association, who won the gold prize in the specialist category at the British Podcast Awards at London's O2 Arena for podcast ‘The Dementia Perspective’.

The podcast also took home the silver award in the health and wellbeing category.

We read with interest about the challenges facing the UK prison service as inmates become older, with many displaying symptoms of dementia.

HMP Edinburgh is running an experiment, where they are bringing aging inmates together in a specially designed area that mirrors a care home setting, called ‘The Basement’. Here carers are on hand to help and support inmates, encouraging them to leave their cells and become part of the prison community.
