2024: HOPE is the light of the soul.
I was an intern at Guinness plc in 1992. After I had spent 6 months in the company, the provisional offer of placement ran out, and so I was required to look for another place.
I was accepted at Guinness in the first place, on the account we had a high-ranking family friend in the company who eased me in as finding a place was very competitive. Now, I had no more joker in my cards.
I braved every odd and went knocking on every door that had anything to do with Engineering along the Ikeja stretch.
Until I walked into an office, and the MD/CEO had a name plate with his name on it, ‘Steve Mayo’. I remember this vividly because my meeting him changed everything for me.
He responded pleasantly to my story and said something to this effect: “I don’t have a place in my company, but because your name is Steve, just as me, I will write you a note to my friend who owns a thriving Information Technology company not far away from here”.
That same day I started a 3-month internship with an Information Technology company. The rest is history, they say.
You can never miss the spot where the Saviour was born if you keep track of the star in the skies.
Hope is the light of the soul; it will lead you to the shores of your dream if you keep looking.
