I'd wear these even if I wasn't riding.

These are the Ariat Cattle Caite Wide Square Toe Western Boots, and they surprised me with how comfortable they are.

The colours are great, they're easy to get on, and I can genuinely see myself wearing them all day.

I expected to like this belt.

I didn't expect to want to wear it when I'm not riding.

This is the Ariat Oval Concho Diamond Belt, and I think it might be the piece that pulls the whole outfit together.

These Ariat R.E.A.L Perfect Rise Rosa Stretch Bootcut Jeans are way stretchier than I expected.

I thought they'd look good, but I wasn't expecting them to be this comfortable.

I thought western shirts would be thick and uncomfortable.

What's the most important thing you look for in a riding shirt?

This was my first western lope 🤠

What surprised me most about western riding was how much is actually going on behind the scenes. It looks relaxed from the outside, but there's a lot more happening than I expected.

What surprised you most when you first tried a new discipline?

This exercise completely changed my view of western riding.

From the outside it can look simple, but being able to move different parts of the horse independently takes a lot more precision than I expected.

The biggest challenge?

Trying to stop riding like an English rider 😅

At first I was using my hands far too much. Once I started relaxing and making smaller movements, things started to make a lot more sense.

Easier said than done 😅

One of the biggest things I noticed during western riding was how much emphasis there is on sitting quietly and letting the horse do the work.

That pretty much summed up this exercise 😅

This was position two in western riding, which felt surprisingly similar to a leg yield, but coordinating everything at the same time was another story.
