This PS5 came in with a nasty fault, and the thermal camera helped cut through the diagnosis pretty quickly. The APU appears to have developed an internal short, causing a very localised hotspot almost instantly during the brief power-up attempt. Unfortunately, an internal APU failure is about as catastrophic as it gets on a PS5 and can turn what looks like a potentially repairable power fault into a board that’s simply not economically viable to fix. Without thermal imaging, this could have meant hours chasing power rails, regulators and surrounding components — instead, the camera gave us a huge clue within seconds. Sometimes having the right diagnostic tools makes all the difference! 🔥🔬🎮
