One of the advantages of AI search is that it's first response will usually offer a variety of possible answers if the query is short and fairly open.

As an example, asking Gemini (Google) about a 'Feature Wall in Lancaster' provides three possible scenarios:

1. I want a media wall installing
2. I want to purchase wallpaper
3. I want a decorator to create a feature wall

This gives your business more chance of appearing in the answer as a citation, as depending which path the user chooses, the AI will then narrow the citations to suit it. If it just assumed they wanted scenario 3 and didn't prompt to narrow it down, the businesses in scenarios 1 and 2 wouldn't have a chance to be cited.

It works differently to traditional Google search, which processes the search query to guess which scenario the user wants, then presents Ads first, followed by map listings, and then eventually the organic website results, which will be skewed towards one of the scenarios.

On a side note, it was pleasing to see our clients featured as the top citations for scenarios 1 and 3 in the above AI search - J Procter Joinery for media wall installation (1), and Lime Tree Properties for feature wall decoration (3). Scenario 2 presented a local decorating supply shop.

Website rebuild completed for Black Swan Ops.

Business director Juan contacted BY Design through our website. He was looking for someone to complete a full website rebuild, to help position Black Swan Ops as the go-to provider of threat and risk control for high net worth clients.

The website needed to be turned around fairly quickly, ahead of an upcoming marketing campaign in Dubai.

We worked with the existing branding to create a new design, bringing a touch of colour to give it more punch. Juan provided new copy for each page, which we then optimised for AI and traditional search.

We also completed hosting and domain name migration, email migration to Google G Suite, and helped tie up all loose ends with the previous provider.

Black Swan Ops specialises in dispute resolution, cyber security, due diligence, PMC and security services.

Great work with Juan on this one. As a result of the project success, we have now been contracted to build a new website for Breogan Group LLC, who are the parent company of Black Swan Ops.

Sometimes, rather than try to rank for something you think is important, you can reverse the process.

Start with your customer feedback.

Look at what your reviews are saying - what do people like about you and what services do they specifically mention.

Then, create a new page on your website, based on the above, focusing on the language used in the reviews, one specific service or aspect of your business, and include a direct quote of one review on the page.

What you are doing is building positive content based on what is already working well for your business according to your social proof; this will in turn signal to the AI and search bots that this is a key area of your business.

As an example, we did this with The Greyhound at Halton.

They received several good reviews about it being a great stop-off point for people travelling on the M6 motorway who wanted real food rather than a service station. The pub is five minutes from J34, so it is very easy for people to get to, and has a large car park, b**r garden, and is dog-friendly. Some reviews also mentioned how motorhome-friendly it is.

We then developed a new page based around the above, to promote it as a motorway stop-off and overnight stop-off for motorhome travellers.

As a result, the pub has then had a noticeable increase of the above types of customer, and also has received more reviews in relation to the same thing. It has also achieved the number 1 spot in AI citations when you ask for a recommendation of somewhere to stop for food when travelling on the M6 near J34.

Eighth business month of 2026 completed and we are into the final third of the year already.

August saw the launch of new websites for Desiccant Dry Air, ACS Surveyors, Water Sculptures, Ecodrive, Crossway Foods, and Black Swan Ops, as well as the creation of the pod builder for the The British Pod Company.

Your 'perfect' homepage might be costing you sales.

A lot of website projects get stuck on the hero image, the exact wording of the opening line, or whether the design feels impressive enough.

All of that matters, but only if the page is doing its job.

The homepage should be ruthless about business priorities.

Can visitors quickly understand what you do?
Can they see who you help?
Is there a clear next step?
Does the page guide them towards an enquiry, booking, purchase, or phone call?

Pretty design can still fail if the call-to-action is hidden, the content is vague, the page is slow, or the visitor is left to work things out for themselves.

Interactive online pod builder created for our local client, The British Pod Company.

Directors Scott and Liam previously sent tick-able PDF spec sheets to their prospective customers by email, creating a potential break in the sales process, as the customer may not fill the PDF out and send it back, or if they did, it could take a while.

They wanted an instant, online pod builder, where the customer can select their pod, specify the size and layout, and then proceed through a series of guided, visual sections, to spec their dream pod.

The end result is emailed to the customer as a BPC-branded PDF, and a copy is sent to the sales team for them to follow-up.

The pod builder is created within their existing WordPress website, using Gravity Forms, with a Gravity PDF extension. It is a clean, simple build to solve a potential gap in their pod sales process.

Great to be working with such an ambitious, forward-thinking local company.

Great feedback yesterday from a long-standing customer who had an issue with their property management website.

New website launched for Ecodrive Transmissions.

Business director Samantha contacted BY Design following a recommendation from Jonny Moore of Drumbeat.

She was looking for someone to complete a full website rebuild, to help position Ecodrive as the go-to provider of ZF transmission services across the UK.

We worked with the existing branding to create a new design, incorporating up-to-date photographs of their premises and completed work, and introduced entirely new copy for each page.

Many old and defunct pages were retired, and replaced with new service-orientated pages. A redirect map was then created to ensure no traffic to existing links was lost. An online warranty request form was created, with the optional of a traditional downloadable Word version alongside it.

We also introduced a series of 12 new AI-optimised pages targeting specific brands of trucks and buses, to help the website achieve citations in AI search. These pages also function as valuable SEO content for traditional search.

Ecodrive Transmissions specialises in the repair, overhaul, and supply of HGV and PSV transmission systems, with a particular focus on minimising vehicle downtime and supporting Vehicle Off Road (VOR) requirements.
