Linn demo time!

Yesterday afternoon was a busy one… demonstrating the massively capable 150 speakers from Linn in a few configurations. Firstly using a single power amp module inside the Selekt DSM, alongside Linns Katalyst DAC, offering superb performance.

Then we removed the Katalyst DAC and swapped in Linns own, made from scratch, Organik DAC, lifting a veil and bringing the music even more to life. A well worthwhile upgrade.

Then came the big guns… two more Organik DAC’s, seated in two more power amp modules. This allowed the internal crossovers in the 150’s to be disabled and replaced by a very clever algorithm inside the DSM. Each driver then gets its own Organik DAC and power amp, achieving perfect time alignment, perfect control and jaw dropping sound, from one small box!

All of this was connected to a Selekt LP12 for a sleek, high performance hifi system that defies its small stature. One of my favourite systems we’ve set up recently!

On the Rega Planar 1 we have 'Time out' by the Dave Brubeck Quartet
On the Rega Planar 3 RS we have 'Out of the Blue' by ELO
On the Rega Planar 6RS we have 'Superunknown' by Soundgarden

While Charlie is enjoying some well deserved time off keeping me company in the shop is the Linn Selekt DSM running actively into the 150 speakers.

In the mini demo room I have the phenomenal Quad ESL 2812X connected to the Quad Platina amp.

Both systems are sounding fabulous but very different. You are welcome to pop in for a listen, we are open until 5pm today and the air-conditioning is lovely.

Linn Exakt demo time!

So, Active, what does it mean?

In this demo we do away with the passive crossovers inside these beautiful Linn 150 speakers, instead replacing it with a digital crossover network inside a Selekt DSM.
This is fed into three, yes three! Organik DAC modules then into three stereo power amp modules.

This means each driver in the speaker is individually powered and not a single drop of power is lost on the way. Better time alignment, better power management, better sound!

This jaw dropping, compact system will be on demo upstairs for a few weeks, so call us to book in…

Out with the old, in with the new…
We’ve just finished installation of this beautiful Rega Research Ltd UK Planar 10, replacing a Planar 8. Including swapping over the cartridges so this P10 is now fitted with an Aphelion 2!

Connected to a Rega Aria phonostage, Naim Audio 222 streaming pre, 250 power amp and 300 power supply into the stunning Bowers & Wilkins 805 D4 stand mount speakers! A seriously impressive system!

Less than a week after this Linn LP12 was under the screwdriver for a Valhalla Electronics Zeus PSU upgrade, we’ve now fitted a Linn Kore.

Giving the turntable a much more solid presentation, providing a very stiff platform for the bearing, platter, arm and cartridge. A very worthwhile upgrade and now this LP12 is playing better than ever!
