Haverhill Galaxy owners: phone won't charge because it says "Moisture detected", but it hasn't been wet? 📱

On a dry phone it's usually the cable or the port, not water:

🔌 Try a different, clean cable first. It's Samsung's own advice
💨 If the cable also charges a v**e, give the v**e its own
🔧 Still getting it with a clean cable after a day? The port needs a look

Haverhill iPhone owners: has your phone stopped waking when you tap the screen since updating to iOS 27? 📱

If your screen has been replaced at any point and was never configured with Apple's Repair Assistant, iOS 27 turns Tap to Wake off, even on a genuine screen.

✅ Raise to Wake and the side button still work
🔧 A genuine screen that passes Apple's configuration gets it back

Xbox giving you "No Signal" or a black screen? 🎮⚡

Before you panic, run through this - most of these are free fixes, not a broken console:

🔌 Reseat or swap the HDMI cable, and try a different port on the TV
🎮 Got an Xbox One? Check the cable is in HDMI OUT, not HDMI IN - a genuinely easy mix-up that looks exactly like a dead port
🔧 Power cycle it properly, then force a low-resolution boot if you're still stuck

Only losing signal at 4K and 120Hz on a Series X or S? That's usually a TV handshake quirk with Variable Refresh Rate, not a fault at all - turn VRR off or drop the resolution and try again.

Still black after all that? That's the port, and it's a routine, fixable job - not a reason to replace the console.

Haverhill gamers - Xbox stuck on "No Signal" or a black screen? 🎮

Before you bring it in, try these for free:
🔌 A different HDMI cable, and a different port on the TV
🎮 Xbox One owners: check you're in HDMI OUT, not HDMI IN - an easy mix-up that looks just like a dead port
🔧 A proper power cycle, then a low-resolution boot if that doesn't sort it

Still nothing? That's very likely the HDMI port itself, most often from a drop, a knock, or the console being moved while it was still plugged in.

Pop into the shop on Queen Street and we'll take a proper look. Free diagnostic, fixed written quote before anything happens, and HDMI port repair from £86 on the One family or £126 on Series X/S.

👋 Right, let us put this one to bed, because we have been asked it a lot today.

No, we are not closing. 💙

The building we trade from has gone up for auction, and we can see exactly why that has caused confusion. So here is the bit that matters:

🏠 The BUILDING and the BUSINESS are two completely separate things.

The building is bricks and mortar. It is owned by a landlord, and we rent our part of it from them. mendmyi is the business that works inside it, and that is owned and run by us. Two different things, owned by two different people.

What is up for auction is the building. Not mendmyi. Not our lease, not our team, not our tools, not our stock.

Think of it like a house with tenants living in it being sold. The tenants do not pack up and move out, they just have a new landlord. It is the same here. Our lease runs to 2031 and it stays with the building, so whoever buys it simply becomes our new landlord. The only thing that changes is the name on the rent.

Which means, for you, nothing changes at all. Same shop, same door, same service, same opening times. And we fully intend to be here long after 2031. We are not closing our doors and disappearing.

And while we are at it: our neighbours at Sunflower SEND Hub are going nowhere either. 🌻

Now, here is the part most people do not know about us.

Some of the country's largest insurance companies trust us with their customers' devices. Not a call centre. Not a faceless depot on an industrial estate somewhere. Us, on this bench, in Haverhill. If you have ever claimed on your phone insurance, there is a fair chance your handset came through mendmyi. Insurers do not hand their customers' phones to just anyone, and they do not stay 15 years with a shop that is on its way out.

But honestly? The insurance work is not the bit we love most. That is you lot. Cracked screens, phones full of photos that cannot be lost, school iPads by the trolley-load, and consoles that pick the worst possible week to give up. Helping local people with the things that actually matter to them is why we opened, and it is why we are still here.

So, to be completely clear:
🔧 Same team, same bench, same 12-month warranty
🕘 Same opening times, no change at all
🔍 Free diagnostics, and most repairs done the same day
💷 Still buying and selling phones, consoles and laptops

We are busier than ever, and we are here to stay.

"Our honest view: this is a genuinely disappointing position to put owners in. Someone who wants their iPad repaired, not replaced, ending up stuck with jittery lines through absolutely no fault of theirs or their screen's, purely because a software step got skipped, is not a fair trade for keeping a perfectly good device out of landfill."

We wrote that in our new guide, and we meant it.

Haverhill iPad Pro owners: if your Apple Pencil has gone wavy or jittery since a screen repair, that is the fault we are talking about. iPad Pro, Air and mini models pair the screen to a serial number. A screen swap that does not carry that pairing across breaks it, even with a genuine screen, so it is nothing to do with part quality.

What we do differently: if your original screen is still with the iPad and has not been opened before, we can transfer that pairing to a new screen, high success rate, though never guaranteed, and we tell you that honestly before we start. Keeping your original screen where possible avoids the issue altogether.

If the original screen has already gone, that transfer cannot be done after the fact, so pop in and we will give you the real picture, including whether a second repair is actually worth it versus selling or trading in.

Here is what sits behind it. iPad Pro, Air and mini models pair the screen's touch data to that exact screen's serial number. Swap the screen without carrying that pairing across, and straight lines come out wavy, even though the Pencil connects and charges completely normally. It happens with a genuine, pulled screen just as much as any other, so it is not a sign of a cheap part.

The honest picture:
🔧 Keeping or refurbishing your original screen always avoids it
🔧 A specialist tool can transfer the pairing to a new screen on many (not all) generations, high success rate, not guaranteed
🔧 If the original screen is already gone, that transfer cannot be done retroactively, and the only fix left is an expensive second replacement

We tell every customer the real odds before we start, not after.

📱 Got an old phone sitting in a drawer? It is not rubbish yet.

Four honest options, whatever make it is:
1️⃣ Still works? Sell it for cash or trade it towards a refurbished upgrade

iPhone stopped charging? Before you panic, it might be the cable, not the phone. 🔌

Cheap USB-C cables and chargers can quietly damage the charging IC, the chip inside an iPhone 15, 16 or 17 that manages incoming power, and iPads are exposed to exactly the same risk. Which? tested 15 cheap online-marketplace chargers this summer and found most were genuinely unsafe.

Our new guide walks through the free checks first: a trusted cable, a gentle port clean, a force restart. If none of that works, bring it into the shop on Queen Street, we'll diagnose it for free and give you a fixed written quote before any work happens. Apple does not repair a failed charging IC, it replaces the whole phone. We repair the chip on your own phone at the bench, so your photos and data usually stay exactly where they are.

That bargain-bin USB-C cable in the drawer could be the reason your iPhone won't charge. 🔌

A genuine cable negotiates power safely with your phone before anything flows. A cheap fake can skip that protection entirely, and in June 2026 Which? tested 15 cheap chargers from online marketplaces and found 9 posed an electrocution risk. One fake "Apple" charger ruined its buyer's iPad and phone together.

Before you blame the phone:
✅ Try a cable and adapter you trust
✅ Clean the port (wooden toothpick, never metal)
✅ Force restart it
✅ Watch HOW it charges, not just whether it does

If a good cable still gets nothing, the fault may be the charging IC, the chip on the board that manages incoming power. Apple does not repair a failed charging IC, it replaces the phone, and very likely your data goes with it. We repair it instead: a free diagnostic, then a chip-level fix on your own phone, data usually untouched.

Haverhill gamers - PS5 stuck on "No Signal" or a black screen? 🎮

Before you bring it in, try these for free:
🔌 A different HDMI cable, and a different port on the TV
🔧 A Safe Mode resolution reset (hold power until the second beep)

Still nothing? That's very likely the HDMI port itself, most often from a drop, a knock, or the console being moved while it was still plugged in.

Pop into the shop on Queen Street and we'll take a proper look. Free diagnostic, fixed written quote before anything happens, HDMI port repair at a flat £126, and we know to check the small EMI filter by the port that a rushed repair elsewhere can knock loose - the exact thing that quietly kills 4K without touching anything else.

PS5 giving you "No Signal" or a black screen? 🎮⚡

Before you panic, run through this - most of these are free fixes, not a broken console:

🔌 Reconnect the HDMI cable firmly, or try a different one
📺 Try a different port on the TV, and check the input is right
🔧 Boot into Safe Mode and reset the video resolution

Still black after all that? That's a good sign it's the port itself, usually from a drop, a knock, the console being moved while it was still plugged in, or a cable that never sat quite square.

Here's the bit most guides miss: there's a small EMI filter right next to the HDMI port on the board, and it's easy to knock loose during a careless repair. Lose it and you can end up with a picture but no 4K - so if that's happened to you after a fix elsewhere, that's the first thing to check.

iPad gone completely dark and won't charge? Before you assume it's dead, work through this in order:

🔌 Swap the cable and wall block, a proper 20W+ adapter, not a laptop USB port
🪥 Clean the charging port with a wooden toothpick (never anything metal)
⏳ Give it a genuine 30-60 minutes on a charger you know works, a flat battery can sit silent that long before showing any sign of life
🔄 Then force restart it

None of that costs a thing. If there's still nothing after all of it, that's a real battery or port fault, and it's a same-day, fixed-price repair, not a reason to buy a new iPad.

One safety note: if the case no longer sits flat on a table, that's a swollen battery. Stop charging it and get it looked at.

Haverhill, has your iPad gone dark and won't charge? Before you write it off, try this:

🔌 Swap the cable and adapter for a proper 20W+ charger
🪥 Clean the port gently with a wooden toothpick, never metal
⏳ Give it a genuine half hour to an hour on a charger you know works
🔄 Then force restart it

Free, and it sorts most of them. If there's still nothing after all that, pop it into the shop on Queen Street. Free diagnostic, fixed written quote before we touch anything, and real prices from £86 if it needs a battery or port repair.

One thing worth knowing: if the back doesn't sit flat on a table any more, that's a swollen battery and a genuine safety issue. Stop charging it and bring it straight in.

Frozen iPhone screen? Try this before you pop in 📱

We see this a lot in the Haverhill shop, someone walks in convinced their screen is dead, and half the time a 5-second force restart sorts it on the spot at the counter. Volume Up, Volume Down, hold Side until the Apple logo shows, no touch needed.

If that doesn't fix it, a clean screen, no case or screen protector, and a couple of settings tweaks cover most of the rest. All free, all worth trying first.

Still frozen after that, especially if it's been dropped or got wet? That's usually the digitizer, and it's a same-day repair here with a fixed price before we touch anything.

Pop in for a free diagnostic, we'll tell you honestly which one you're dealing with. Full write-up with the whole fix order and real prices below.

Screen gone dead? Try this before you panic 📱

A frozen or unresponsive iPhone touch screen feels like a broken phone, but most of the time it isn't. Here's the order that actually works:

🔘 Force restart it. Volume Up, Volume Down, hold Side until the Apple logo shows. It needs zero taps to work, which is exactly why it fixes most frozen screens outright.
🧼 Clean the screen and take off the case and any screen protector. Touch screens read the electrical charge in your skin, and dirt, moisture or a poorly fitted protector can block that.
🔌 Unplug any cables, update iOS, and try the "Touch Accommodations" setting under Accessibility, most people have never heard of it.

Still nothing, especially after a drop or a soak? That's the digitizer, and it's a straightforward, same-day repair with a fixed price, not a reason to buy a new phone.

We wrote up the full fix order plus real prices, and the UK consumer rights you might not know you have if the phone is fairly new.

🐌 Is your iPhone dragging? Before you spend a penny on a new one, most slow iPhones are fixable for free.

The fixes, in order:
1️⃣ Restart it properly
2️⃣ Free up some storage (it needs headroom to run)
3️⃣ Update iOS and your apps
4️⃣ Let it cool down if it has been in the sun
5️⃣ Check Settings > Battery > Battery Health

A tired battery quietly throttles the chip, and a fresh one brings the speed straight back. Only if it is genuinely past it does a professionally refurbished upgrade, with free UK delivery and a 12-month warranty, make sense.

Laptop keyboard suddenly stopped working? Most of the time it's not broken. ⌨️

Run through these first, free:

⌨️ Hold right Shift for 8 seconds - Filter Keys is an accessibility setting that silently swallows keystrokes, and it catches more people than you'd think
🔄 Restart properly, not just close the lid
🖱️ Reinstall the keyboard driver via Device Manager
🔌 Unplug any USB hub or external keyboard that might be conflicting

Still nothing? Here's the test that actually tells you what's going on: restart and tap Esc or F2 before Windows loads, to open the BIOS. Keys work there? It's software. Don't respond even there? That's genuine hardware, usually a spill, a knock, or a keyboard just worn out after years of typing.

Full diagnostic guide (and real prices if it needs a repair): https://mendmyi.com/blog/laptop-keyboard-not-working

📱 "Storage Almost Full" and can't take a photo or update anything? Most phones are cluttered, not full.

The quick wins that actually work, on iPhone and Android:
1️⃣ Empty the photo bin (Recently Deleted / Bin) - deleted photos sit there for weeks
2️⃣ Offload apps you never open
3️⃣ Clear the WhatsApp media hoarded inside your chats (this one is huge)
4️⃣ Let the phone tidy its own caches

Ten minutes usually claws back gigabytes. And if you have genuinely outgrown a small phone, a professionally refurbished one with more storage costs a fraction of new, with free UK delivery, a 12-month warranty, and your data moved across for you.
