PRES RELEASE: EVENT WILL DETAIL LOCAL JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE

Local companies and individuals can discover opportunities in constructing and maintaining Pembrokeshire’s new fibre broadband infrastructure at an event this month.
Organised by Pembrokeshire County Council’s broadband team, this ‘Meet the Supplier’ event will offer an insight into a range of roles now available in the local fibre broadband infrastructure industry.
Pembrokeshire County Council is working with communities and suppliers to upgrade all residents and businesses to the latest, full-fibre, ultrafast broadband.
This ambitious project is well under way, with a growing number of residents in remote rural locations and towns now enjoying some of the fastest speeds in the UK, thanks to the Digital Pembrokeshire project, which uses Government funding, and commercial builds.
The industry is in need of more skilled contractors and suppliers to pick up the pace of this historic rollout, which will upgrade Pembrokeshire properties to futureproof gigabit-capable fibre.
The council is looking to address the shortage of telecoms workers and associated contractors and wants to highlight local opportunities, as currently much of the work is being done by people travelling into Pembrokeshire.
A free event will be held in the Bridge Innovation Centre, Pembroke Dock, on Wednesday March 30, 10am to 1pm, and will bring together key organisations from the industry.
Presentations will explain strategic plans and progress so far on the full fibre roll out in Pembrokeshire, and introduce the work of two major fibre infrastructure builders in the county.
Interested individuals and small local businesses looking to diversify, up-skill or move into new or allied sectors will have be opportunities to meet telecom infrastructure builders and discuss industry training programmes and funding available.
Leading UK training providers will be attending the event, and there will also be interactive demonstrations on fibre kit to offer examples of essential workplace skills which are in demand.
Business Wales will be supporting the event and provide advice for bidding as well as general and specialist business advice.
A range of opportunities are available for people keen for a new challenge or change of direction, and existing transferable skills can be tailored to various roles through training.
There is a great demand for a number of workers, and the ambitious build projects will call for all types of civil works from tarmacking to telecoms, splicers and surveyors.
