Jamie was one of the first h**p growers to trial our technology on his farm in Leicestershire, UK. As someone who understands the need and potential for data to transform the h**p industry, he was the perfect initial partner for Nature’s Data.

In his words: “Moving forward, data is going to be key to optimising growth and optimising for different end-uses. Data helps farmers be efficient and decarbonise their crop rotations as much as possible.”

Jamie has been busy spreading the h**p word and expanding his business operations with **p. Focused on industrial h**p, he is working to produce carbon-negative building materials & shake up the construction industry.

We’re always keen to make connections at Nature’s Data. Whoever you are, whatever your interests and specialities, never hesitate to get in touch! 🌱

The Nature’s Data system is intuitive, interactive and easy to use ☘️

… and if you don’t believe us, read the words of one of our brilliant trial partners in Colorado, Mike, of Impello 🌱 ☀️

“The Nature’s Data sensors, system and team made data collection and review painless. In a research field like ours, data collection is critically important, but it’s an incredibly time consuming task when done manually. Fortunately, ND is helping solve that problem, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.”

Globally, Canada is the number one producer of h**p, followed by China and France. 🍁 🇨🇦

In Canada, ma*****na legalisation and growing interest in h**p seeds as a superfood have boosted the industry. According to Health Canada, there were around 22,000 ha of h**p planted in 2020, up from just 2,400 ha in 1998. The main growing regions are Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

While the country’s h**p industry is still relatively small, some believe h**p could become a staple Canadian agricultural crop in the future. ⚡️

Creating a system FOR farmers, WITH farmers, was our number one priority when we set out to build the Nature’s Data h**p management system. 🌱

We began our journey in the h**p world by speaking to as many h**p farmers, in as many countries, as possible - and they continue to lead our evolution today.

We were lucky to run our field trials with some brilliant growers and leaders in this space. We’ve now launched our system & testimonies like this from those that know it leave us glowing!!!

If you’d like to find out more or chat to one of the team, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Yep, that means less (to no) pesticides, herbicides and other poisonous chemicals that are typically sprayed across fields in huge amounts. The fact h**p doesn’t require growing chemicals like other crops makes it better for the earth AND better for the farmer (less expenses). Win win, wouldn’t you say?

Due to the fact h**p plants’ grow very high very fast, the shade they create efficiently eliminates weeds, leaving the soil in optimum condition and minimising the need for toxic weed-killing chemicals. Preliminary results from a Rodale Institute trial in the US found that the presence of h**p as a summer crop suppressed weeds all season-long and provided a wider window for establishing the winter crop. This is another major reason for including h**p as a rotational crop on farms.

As h**p is susceptible to few serious pests, insecticides can also be avoided. It is usually cultivated with few herbicides too. 🌿🦋🪲🐞🐌

H**p Management System

How does it work?

The Nature’s Data starter packs get farms digitised, offering the ability to monitor fields remotely and receive real-time actionable farm alerts via SMS or email.

Sensors in the field - whether soil, climatic or NPK - constantly talk to the Base Station or ‘Brain’. Real-time data is then analysed & visualised in interactive dashboards. In other words, we turn your data into knowledge. 💡

Our favourite h**p fact 🚀

H**p has been proven to be one of the ultimate carbon capturers - better than any other crop or forest. AND if the plant is turned into a building material like h**pcrete, that’s PERMANENT carbon storage. Even more incredibly, the house made of h**pcrete will CONTINUE to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, even after the plant is dead and the straw has been chopped up and turned into h**pcrete. Basically, h**p is nature’s purifier, and it’s high time we started paying attention to the wisdom the earth already holds.

H**p isn’t just good for growing on farms, turning into CBD oil, or making into thousands and thousands of environmentally-friendly products… It’s also a really beneficial and nutritious plant to eat (& yummy too). 🍎🍇🍓

H**p is a COMPLETE protein source, meaning it contains all 9 ESSENTIAL amino acids. Humans need 20 different amino acids to maintain optimum health and normal functioning. 9 of these - the essential ones - we get through our food. H**p seeds are one of the few things you can eat that contain all 9. They can be added to breakfast yoghurt, smoothies, protein bars, cakes…

H**p seeds are also nutrient dense: they contain calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, vitamin E, B vitamins, and D3! They’re good for the heart, the skin and digestion. Basically… we should all start eating h**p seeds, and lots of them. Who agrees?!

We set out on a mission 2 years ago: to build something of real value to h**p farmers and the wider h**p industry. We’re proud to say, along with some brilliant h**p farmers and innovators, that’s exactly what we’ve done.

Part of what we love about working in this industry is the incredible community and collaboration - wherever and whoever you are, please don’t hesitate to say hello! ⭐️
