We’re excited to share that EARS has received £2,974 from The Forever Surrey Fund!
This funding will be used to invest in a new FLEX-8400 SDR transceiver, an Antenna Tuner Unit, and a GPSDO 10 MHz reference.
It means we can replace our ageing and unreliable HF radio equipment—ensuring the continued operation of our long-standing club callsigns, G8AHK and G3IGQ (on air since 1958)—and inspire more students to explore the fascinating world of amateur radio.
A huge thank you to the donors of The Forever Surrey Fund for making this possible.

We are hosting a trip to the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker!
It is a former Cold War government nuclear bunker, located in South East England.

It will take place on the 30/11/25 where we will meet in the Makerspace by 9:30am. Pricing is £15 per person, open to non-members as well :)
You are recommended to bring your own food as we will not provide it.
Transport to/from the bunker will be provided by us.

There are only 14 seats available.

We are holding a UK Foundation Radio Licence Course!

Training will take place on Saturday, followed by final revision on Sunday morning and exam Sunday evening.
You will be required to bring your own laptop (Mac/Windows, not allowing iPads, Chromebooks, Android tablets, or phones).

Location of training and exam will be confirmed later.

To take the exam you will need to pay (prices are given in slide 3), but the training we provide is free.
You can also look into Radio Communication Foundation (RCF) funding for the exam if you are under 21 and in full-time education.

Intermediate/Full/Direct-to-Full exams are available. However, there will be no training provided for that by EARS.

Non-students are welcome, sign-up will be on the form in our linktree (link in bio).
The deadline for sign-up will be 2nd November.

Join us for the first session for the Tillingbourne Satellite Ground Station this Thursday!

We will meet in the Makerspace (18 AB 04) at 5pm and then make our way up to the Ground Station (it will involve climbing many stairs and a ladder).

The talk will consist of an introduction to the GS, a plan for this year, and a safety brief. It would benefit those who want to learn about SATCOM and the higher frequencies available to amateur radio operators. You don't need any knowledge to be involved in the GS, just an interest to learn!

Don't worry if you didn't attend. If you still want to join a Battle Bots team, then make sure you turn up to the next meeting at the Penguin Lab (32 BB 03) at 6pm and fill out the online sign-up form beforehand.

Make sure to join the discord, as that is where we post announcements and updates on all activities! If you have any questions regarding Battle Bots, you can also ask them there :)

Join us for the first Battle Bots project session of the year! This session is where we explain everything about Battle Bots, from weight classes, to rules and competitions and the build process, so that a working fighting robot will be ready in time ahead of competitions.

No previous experience is needed to join, only an interest in getting a working robot built and winning competitions!

This event is also not just for paid EARS members, anyone interested in Battle Bots is more than happy to join, and there are no extra charges to participate in a team beyond purchasing a membership.

We will also be available to resolve any questions regarding Battle Bots during the event, so you can be sure you will enjoy participating in Battle Bots.
