So the question is… which haunted house are you living in? 👻

Being a small business owner can be so rewarding but let’s not forget about the scary bits either... outdated websites, diy branding, old marketing materials, AI generated graphics that look the same as the next business when all you want to do is stand out! 🫣

Give me a brief for your wedding invitations, and I’ll do it!! 💖

I absolutely loveeee designing wedding invitations, so when an old school friend got in touch to help me with hers, I jumped at the chance!!

I hope she doesn’t mind me saying either that she began creating the invites on AI but it wouldn’t listen to her amends, more things would change than what she actually wanted! So I took over and we worked together on the content to create these gorgeous invitations. ✨

I used to create wedding invites as a “side hustle” about 10 years ago now, so it was so nice to go back to that. 🥰

Shoutout to bringing the designs to life ✨✨✨

Come with me to find the new mental health bench. 🫶🏻

Based at in Send, Surrey, the aim is to create a welcoming space where people can stop, breathe, reflect, and connect with nature, while also accessing support through QR codes engraved on the bench, linking directly to mental health and wellbeing resources.

I redesigned the logo for My Planet Health earlier this year, and to see it featured alongside details that could help our community, I feel so proud! 🥹

As part of the initiative, they’re planning to have more along the Wey Navigation so keep an eye out for them!

Over the summer I clicked publish on the new website for My Planet Health ~ a CIC (Community Interest Company) who provide counselling to everyone, not just those who can afford it.

If you remember, or if you’re new here, I refreshed their branding and mentioned the next stage was the website! Et voila - here it is!

The previous site was very clunky, full of too much text and had confusing navigation… a result of years of updates and information but not quite the right place to put it in.

I was privileged to visit the My Planet Health setting in Send and it was a huge contrast to what was portrayed online, which is the first impression of course!

It was soft, comfortable, and trustworthy - not what the website portrayed, and maybe not quite how a therapist website should make you feel.

So I took these ideas to the drawing board and created the above, all on Wix and handed back to my client for blog updates and any other changes they may wish to implement too. I’m also still here in case they don’t have the time to do it themselves 👩‍💻

It’s giving 2024 Wonka experience.

It wasn’t quite what I expected from the imagery advertising the event, but am I surprised?! Nope.

If you’ve no choice to use AI then please make sure that the event, food, products or whatever you’re advertising matches.

We were looking around for a big wooden steam train & carriage, had to ask where to find it, and turns out the small train we walked past at the entrance (which I thought was separate) was what we were looking for.

I will caveat this with the fact that my twins still had fun but it definitely was not what we expected, at all.

I couldn’t not share as, if you don’t know by now, I have a strong dislike towards AI imagery and this just cements it even more for me!

Probably an unpopular opinion… but I said what I said!

Scrolling through socials and every other post is created with AI - the image is AI, the caption is AI - and as a graphic designer, I’m tired.

at this point, I’d rather see Comic Sans, Papyrus or, hell, even Curlz MT used 😅 at least then your audience will know that you’ve put a bit of thought and emotion into your marketing rather than a prompt into AI which throws back to you a busy “design” with no typographical hierarchy and a mass of icons and banners with way too much information on.

People are beginning to notice and they’re getting the ick (I’ve seen the comments!) - they’re wondering where else you’re cutting corners. so let’s get back to being more human again, jump onto Word or Canva has lots of free templates to use too.

And if you’re not sure about what you’re doing with a design, I’d be more than happy to share my advice and help guide you in the right direction with it 🩷
