Some local SEO work produces less value once the basics are already in place.

If your listings are accurate and your Google Business Profile is complete, review the details customers use to choose between businesses:
🔵 Recent customer reviews
🔵 Correct regular and holiday hours
🔵 Current photos
🔵 Clear service information
🔵 Answers to common customer questions

Local visibility matters, but calls, bookings, visits, and qualified inquiries show whether that visibility is working.

If your website takes payments, here is something worth checking this week. You do not need to be technical to understand it.

Somewhere on your site a price gets worked out. Options get picked, a discount goes on, VAT gets added, a total appears on the screen.

The question is where that sum is actually being done.

If it is done on the visitor's computer, and their computer then tells your payment provider what to charge, the amount you get paid is whatever that computer says it is. And a visitor can change what their own computer says. Not by hacking anything. Using a menu that is already built into every web browser.

You would never spot it in your reports either. The order comes through. The payment clears. It is simply for the wrong amount.

The fix is not complicated and it is not new. Your own server works out the price, and the browser is only allowed to display it. That is how it has been done for twenty years.

What has changed is that the AI tools people are building with are very good at making the screen look right, and nobody ever tells them where the sum belongs. So if you had something built quickly this year, it is worth asking whoever built it one question. Is the total worked out on the server?

If you get a pause, that is your answer.

A question we get asked a lot at the moment: "can you just check the app my nephew built with AI is actually safe?"

Yes we can. But the thing people expect us to find is almost never the thing we find.

Everyone imagines a hacker. What actually turns up is much more boring, and much more likely. Two customers use the app. One of them changes the number at the end of a web address and gets to look at the other one's invoice. Nothing was broken into. The app was simply never told that those two customers are not supposed to see each other's things.

That is not an AI problem. We have been finding the same thing in hand written software since 2008. AI has just made it possible to build an app very quickly without anyone ever sitting down and deciding who is allowed to see what.

If you have got something running that holds other people's details, the cheapest thing you can do this week costs nothing. Get a second account, log in as that, and try to look at the first account's data. If it works, you have found it before somebody else did.

If you have an online shop, here is a question worth asking whoever built it.

When a customer places an order, does the price come from your database, or does the browser tell you what it was?

It sounds like a technical detail. It is not. The page on the customer's screen already knows the item, the quantity and any discount, because it has worked out the total in order to display it. The quickest way to build a checkout is to let the page send that total along with the order, and have the shop write down what it was told.

Everything works. The totals are right. Every order that has ever come through has been correct, because every customer so far has behaved normally.

The problem is that the number is sitting somewhere the customer can edit before it is sent. Not with any special tools. It is a couple of minutes' work for anyone who has looked it up once.

This turns up more often in apps built quickly with AI, because the AI writes exactly what it was asked for, and nobody asked it who should be allowed to decide the price.

If you are not sure which way yours works, that is a fair enough answer. Most people are not. It is worth finding out before somebody else does.

The first question is almost never about security.

People come to us with an app they built with AI, and before anything else they want to know whether they own it. Whether the code is theirs, whether they could move it somewhere else, whether they are stuck with the tool that made it.

Good instinct pointed at the wrong risk. It is ordinary React and an ordinary database. You can move it. Any competent developer can read it.

The risk is not that you cannot leave. It is that you cannot tell what you are taking with you.

Somewhere in there is a query that returns more than the screen shows. A form that trusts the value the browser sent it. An endpoint nobody linked to that still answers. None of that shows up when you use the app, because using the app is the one thing that cannot find it.

Ownership was never the hard part. Knowing what you own is.

A question we get asked a lot at the moment.

Someone builds an app using one of the AI tools. Lovable, Replit, Bolt, Bubble. It works. It looks finished. Then they want to put it in front of real customers and they want to know whether that is safe.

Usually the honest answer is that nobody knows, because nobody has looked.

These tools are genuinely impressive and we are not in the business of telling people theirs is rubbish. But what comes out of them underneath is ordinary code and an ordinary database, produced very quickly by something optimising for a working result rather than a durable one. The gap between those two things is where the trouble tends to sit.

If you have built something and it is about to go live, it is worth having someone read it first. There is a free twelve question scorecard on our site that gives you a rough sense of where yours stands. No email needed to see the result.

Things We've Learn't Building Ecommece Sites -

A slow checkout isn’t always a checkout problem.
Sometimes the issue starts much earlier - poor product data, confusing delivery information, limited payment options or an overly complicated customer journey.

Before changing the checkout, look at the whole path to purchase.

Behind the scenes of a Shopify migration 👀

Moving an ecommerce business to Shopify isn’t simply a case of moving products from one platform to another. The real work is making sure everything behind the scenes still works - your stock, orders, customers, pricing, fulfilment, integrations and all those little processes your team relies on every day.

After supporting ecommerce brands through migrations, we’ve learnt that the biggest challenges are often the things you don’t think about until they go wrong.

A successful migration is about understanding how the business actually operates, spotting the weak points and making sure the new setup works better than the old one.

That’s the developer thinking that happens behind the scenes at Dev Partners. we're not just moving you to Shopify - we're making sure your business is ready for what comes next.

🌞 We all know how much the weather drives what we buy in the UK… one minute it’s ice cream and BBQs, the next it’s back to rain jackets.

But it does make you wonder - are ecommerce systems actually keeping up with that level of change in demand?

It’s one thing to see spikes in traffic and sales, but another to make sure your ecommerce site, stock systems, and fulfilment are all talking to each other in real time.

From experience working with retailers at Dev Partners, it’s often not the demand that’s the problem — it’s the gaps between systems that were never really designed to react this fast.

Otherwise the weather might be doing its job… but your stock levels definitely aren’t.

Are most retailers really set up for that kind of flexibility yet?
