After 12 years, I have decided to close the iDeviceFixer shop, and concentrate the majority of my time on new businesses which I have been working on in the background.
I will still carry out certain repairs for customers who have used me previously, please contact me via Facebook if you would like a quote. I will soon be redeveloping the website with updated prices and details.
If you would like to order screen protectors or accessories from me, please visit www.screen-protect.co.uk
I have a discount code "idevicefixer" which will give you 20% off screen protectors, these are shipped daily using Royal Mail Tracked 24 or 48 services. I will be adding other accessories such as genuine chargers and cables in the coming weeks/months.
Some general advice to customers:
Number 1, Pay for cloud backup! I've seen so many customers lose data due to severe damage, or even theft. If it's important to you, back it up. It's about £2.99/Month for 50Gb of cloud storage. It's too late once the phone is destroyed or stolen, and they can also fail on their own. If it is under warranty you will be given a new phone, they do not care about your data.
Number 2, Passwords! You need to keep these passwords offline too. Write them down and keep them somewhere safe. Having them on your phone doesn't help if it gets lost, stolen or damaged. Keep important contacts hand written as well.
Number 3, avoid "refurbished" phones. There is a lot of junk out there and no industry standard or certification on how that refurbishment should be done, or what quality of parts get used. You are buying a phone that was very likely damaged and repaired, it could be one thing or everything apart from the circuit board. The cheaper parts are never as good. Buy from someone you know and trust, or just get it brand new. If it's too expensive to buy the phone you want, just get a cheaper model and buy that new instead.
The current generations of Apple, Samsung and Google phones are extremely expensive to fix, and are just as fragile as they ever have been.
Screen replacements using original parts used to be under £100 or so, now some of the higher end phones are absolutely bonkers as far as repair prices go.
Some examples: iPhone 17 Pro Screen is £349, back glass £150, 17 Pro Max is £389, back glass £150, Samsung S25 Ultra Screen only is £350-£400, Samsung Fold 7 Screen is nearly £700, Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold screen is £1000!!!
If you are going to get one of these high end phones (or even a lower end phone like Samsung A range), I would highly recommend just getting the official manufactures repair plan (it's barely more than a cup of Costa per month). AppleCare, Samsung Care etc. Theses repair plans offered directly from the manufacturer will always use official genuine parts, maintain your warranty and are often available world wide. Consider keeping an old phone as a spare in the household in case you need to send one away.
If you go with some generic online phone insurance, even if it's from your bank or from your contract provider, the repairs will often be farmed out to whoever is willing to do it the cheapest. They will use unofficial parts, and these never work as well as the original. Some of the higher end replacements are very good, but they are never as good as the original parts.
If you need a cheap phone for the kids or anyone, you can get a brand new Motorola E15 from between £60 and £70 brand new with a warranty.
If you are going to buy Apple products, get them only from John Lewis. You will get a 2 year warranty from them. Even Apple will only give you a year. You have to purchase AppleCare within 60 days or purchasing your new device, so do it soon after purchasing.
I still have the shop for the next 3 months, but it will be closed while I get everything moved out ready to hand back to the landlord.
Thank you for all your support, recommendations and reviews over the years!
