The difference between an SMA and RP-SMA connector is important as an incorrect connector will either not couple or leave an air gap. The difference is with the centre pin and whether it is located in the male end or female end of the connector.
RP-SMA connectors are typically used for Wi-Fi antennas and some LoRa antennas, whereas, SMA connectors are normally used for most other RF applications such as 4G/5G and GPS antenna connections.
