It is almost that time of the year again...

The time when we get ready to head for home, to spend time with those closest to us, but before we do, we'd like to wish all of our very important customers, partners, suppliers, and of course our dedicated team of professionals a peaceful and Merry Christmas.

Our office will close today and re-open on the 5th January. For customers with maintenance contracts, please log any issues in the normal way.

We are delighted to have been awarded a two-year contract extension, for the provision of maintenance & support services on behalf of Angus Council, Dundee City Council and Perth & Kinross Council, relating to Fixed-Wireless Access & Wi-Fi network infrastructure across each council area.

Having held this contract for some 11 years now, it is a massive, and continued vote of confidence in us, and we are proud to have been entrusted by each council for so long. The extension means we will now be responsible for these services until 2027

The combined infrastructures of all three councils amount to some 300+ individual node / network connections, making it one of the largest, if not the largest in .

Some know us for delivering carrier-grade high-capacity for all kinds of customers, but it seems that less know us for delivering professional infrastructure, so for those that don't, we have been designing, installing and maintaining WiFi networks since our inception in 2003.

Our service includes,

✅ Initial consultation - understanding what a customer needs from any WiFi network, be that existing or new, and using our 20+ years of experience to advise where appropriate.

✅ Desktop survey - using Ekahau Pro Software, coupled with our knowledge to predict how many WiFi Access Points are required and where to place them, to provide the coverage and performance needed by the customer.

✅ On site survey - using Ekahau Pro Software and the superb Sidekick product, along with active Access Points to thoroughly and efficiently check our predictions against the reality of the site environment, and adapt our design as necessary. We also note any structured cabling requirements and ascertain whether existing network infrastructure will cope with the demands of the new WiFi infrastructure.

✅ Provide a fixed-price quotation, based on the results of the site survey, for the supply, installation, commissioning and on-going support of any new items of required infrastructure. It is worth mentioning that we don't insist that a customer uses equipment provided by us or indeed utilises our engineering force to undertake the installation - we are happy for others to complete these elements if so desired by the customer or indeed the partner who engages our expertise.

✅ Upon completion of any new works, conduct a verification survey, again using Ekahau Pro with their Sidekick device, this providing peace of mind to the customer, that the infrastructure performs as it was designed to.

We passionately believe that WiFi networks / infrastructures deserve the utmost attention from design to implementation to ongoing support. In the end, it's what the paying customer has the right to expect, no matter who they buy from.

Working alongside other specialists is an ever present part of our make-up. We have always been of the opinion that we stick to what we know and by honing our expertise over the last 20+ years, it has led to us delivering added value for many different partners, who may not have the same breadth of knowledge or confidence, in what is often viewed as a very niche area of communications infrastructure - that being .

Our recently completed works on the banks of the famous River, in the area was very much a collaborative effort, with our customer - a security systems specialist being responsible for the delivery of the CCTV camera and security solution, and us delivering the backhaul for the many locations across a wide area.

Whilst it was a bit 'breezy', it was great to be delivering a project in a / environment again - something we've done on a few occasions over the years.

beckons for one of our teams this week. They have a few tasks to complete, including the decommissioning of a 30km (18.6miles) connection, couple with some housekeeping / maintenance works for our long-standing customer. Decommissioning happens from time to time. Customer's needs change, and Wireless is without doubt, the most adaptable connectivity choice, which make these changes a lot less onerous for our customers.

We do get around (in the nicest possible way)!

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers, partners, suppliers and equally importantly, our loyal team, a happy and peaceful Christmas.

We couldn't hope to be who we are without all of you and your support means everything to us.

Sometimes, the saying "patience is a virtue" does seem to be true, though this week's post could also relate to the saying, apparently used by Robert the Bruce, "if at first you don't succeed, try and try again".

Either way, we are delighted to have secured a contract from 's third largest local authority (council), to support & maintain their Fixed Access network for the next five years.

Why does either of the sayings resonate here? Well, despite the customers proximity to our Head Office, we hadn't previously been successful in securing any of their business, since before our current management team took over the business in 2012.

Local authorities are increasingly resting, assured that they benefit from our over two decades of real world expertise in delivery and support of networks in all shapes and sizes.

We can confirm it was dark o'clock when our team delivered the vital additional for public space in this city (see our photos below).

Why?

✅ This happens to be one of, if not the busiest route into this city, so conducting our work during the day would have been challenging.

✅ We try our best to avoid inconveniencing road and footpath users.

✅ Our operations are quick - more often than not, we are only at a single location for 30-45 minutes and other than sometimes (not alwyays) having to drill a small hole for the cable that connects our equipment, our activities create very little noise, meaning we dont unduly impact residents from getting to sleep.

✅ We listen to our customers and deliver for them at a time of their choosing. Often, it is us that recommends doing our work at night, purely to avoid the disruption that daytime activities cause (and we've all experienced them).

Conclusion - The customer's cameras are connected at a significantly lower cost than via a traditional broadband or leased line connection, there are no complaints from road / footpath users and our engineering team can go about their work more efficiently.

Out with the old, and in with the new.

Several issues have led to us trying a different brand - something we didn't anticipate when choosing Ford many years ago.

Like most, or indeed all businesses, we rely heavily on our vehicles to get our teams to our customer sites, with all our gear and materials, so having vehicles which had issues, leading to them being off the road / unavailable to us, sometimes for weeks at a time over the 4 or so years we keep them, is frustrating to say the least. Whether these issues were down to the vehicle model or the service received from franchised dealers, or both, we cannot be sure.

We will see how what is now the only van still built in the UK shapes up, but it certainly looks smart in our livery, or at least we think so. 😊

Variety - it's the spice of life, apparently.

Our post this week, from a recently completed installation, perfectly demonstrates the variety and depth of our knowledge and expertise.

This particular customer - a local authority in , approached us, after enduring months (actually years) of poor customer service from the previous supplier.

Ah, but where is the variety? Well, the customer's requirements were not what many reading this post would know our business for.

Their building - a multi-tenented office block, required a managed Internet service, encompassing dedicated Internet access (DIA) at up to Gigabit speed, along with managed Wi-Fi in all public areas and meeting rooms. This is backed with a support service, offering maintenance on the Wi-Fi, should anything go wrong, along with ad-hoc changes, including tenent access to the Internet service for three years.

The service we delivered also allows the bulding's many tenents (companies of all shapes and sizes) to access a service more tailored to their specific individual needs.
